This is an open ended question really...and probably an open-begun one as well...

The Page of Swords always calls out to me when I see it in a deck, but I'm not sure exactly why.
While I have a half-formed opinion of it, I'd be intrigued to know what it means to other people, and see if I can pin down exactly why it wants me to love it more.

Thanks for any replies...

Well, I've discovered that alot of people are most attracted to the court card they are. Could you be this page?

Young, impulsive, incisive, brave. eager to grow up and just get on with it. And the page of swords has a keen, analytical mind, enjoys school, enjoys change.....

Sound familiar at all?

Karenwhe  30 Nov 2002
On the same thought with RingTheory, could also be those things (characteristics) that you are not and need to be sometimes, and could also be the Shadow of the Page of Swords.

The most simple definition of the shadow is that is consists of the
"disowned" or "shut off" aspects of us.

Just my two cents.

The Page of Swords is one of those 'runs with scissors' cards. Think that might be an aspect you picked up off it?

I am not attracted to the court cards in any of the decks I use. I have been using Tarot for myself and family for about 2 years. I was confused about which card to pick as a significator for certain spreads, so I just never pick one.

When I look at a new deck, I always check out the Tower, then the Moon. They are the most important cards to me. What does that mean?

wakeboarder  30 Nov 2002
I use the Celtic Dragon Deck which has swords/fire and wands/air rather than the usual swords/air and wands/fire, so my interpretation may be off, but I see the page of swords as someone who is always so excited about things that they just don't see that fire underneath them. Again, my deck is a lot different than most people's so this may not be the same as everyone else's.

Hope I'm not veering too far off topic, but I think your astrological/numerological makeup has a great deal to do with any card you feel drawn to.

Tower and the Moon? Hard to say, but I'd guess you were a fire sign, or Mars is strong in your chart. The Moon, probably ...in Cancer? Or heavy water,,,,and I bet one of these cards are your soul card, or your actual birthdate.

And you're probably well-balanced elementally. You people always have trouble with court cards, since you're not a pure type. I don't use them much either-with a deck like wakeboarder's, I get confused on the air/fire thing, and it's usually better to see where your significator turns up in the reading then assigning it that spot...

Another interpertation some of my family used for the page of swords was someone spying on you. Espionage.

Never worked for me, interperting it that way. Okay, reversed. I can seeit....

I'm a big fan of the Queen of Swords as you can probably tell, but I have a general fondness for the whole Swords "family." ;) I see the Page of Swords as an intellectually smart person, someone who grasps concepts quickly and speaks fairly articulately. Another thing is a concern with justice and truth. All those things are common to the family. What makes the Page unique is that he/she is just learning. He is beginning to explore all these facets of his personality. He is just starting to realize that his words can have an effect on people. He is sharpening his wit.

I'm a Leo. I don't know anything about numerology. My birth date is August 21, 1976. I think around 6 or 7am eastern US time. Does that jive?

Looks like you're a Leo, with a Cancer moon. Now your thing for the tower and moon makes sense. Looks like you have Aquarius rising, although without your exact time and place of birth, not too sure here. Then there was three or so planets, like Venus, that you had in Virgo.

Yep, looks like you're a composite. Your personal card is the Chariot, makes sense with your fire/water combo..you like the number 7 in particular?

I knwe this guy once that had a Gemini moon, sun in Aquarius..I knew him when we were both about 17. He knew nothing of the tarot, but pounced on the page of swords...people like him are good to use court cards on.

I'd bet now he'd pick out the king of swords. Like the Queen of Swords herself said, the page is the baby of the sword court cards. Gotta harness that mental energy...

Kiama  01 Dec 2002
Page of Sword is one I always see as indicating ideas and pure thought... It's the Court Card of the young Philosopher, but an unusual Philosopher : One always ready to change their own opinion.

Page of Swords is a fellow filled with curiosity. A little marginal at times. Intelligent chap. Not shy - he dares try things out. As Kiama says, he's ready to change his opinion. Honest character.

Then of course, there's the reversed side. Uh-oh! I hope my son never becomes a good friend of one of those.

Its almost creepy how right you are! The Chariot card is the third card I always check out in a new deck. If it doesn't look positive enough, I won't use the deck. It is the card I meditate on most often for spells. Here's a wierd one- I discovered about 2 weeks ago that the Chariot is MISING from my favorite deck. I have looked everywhere, as sometimes I leave it on my tarot table or marking the page of a spell to use it for in my spell book. It's not anywhere! Does it mean something? It is really bothering me.

jibvt: If 7-The Chariot is your birth card, then 16-The Tower is your shadow card.

In Chariot terms, 'tis likely ye prefer to be in the driver's seat; the one in charge or making the decisions. Ye would rather trust your chances with the self than with anyone else because the job or whatever will get done (properly) by ye. Patience is not one of your strong suits, so frustration is something ye know well. Responsibility for self & for others looms large in the life & oft becomes a defining aspect. In fact, 'tis likely ye assumed responsibility early in the life due to circumstances beyond the immediate control; may have had to revamp the life around the needs of others. Home, family & relationships in general tend to be important to ye. Ye will go the extra mile if ye deem it necessary.

In Tower terms, the life tends to be marked by a series of life changes, usually due to forces outside of self; the actions of others; & just real life intrusions (such as the car breaking down *after* being in the shop for a tune-up or repairs). With each event, ye have had to pick up the pieces & re-structure the life all over again. There may be bouts of feeling helpless even when one is doing all one possibly can to ensure that things run smoothly. At times, there may be a near fatalistic attitude: waiting for the other shoe to drop; on guard for Murphy's Law--similar to the stance of 9-Wands in the RWS deck. Ye are a very proud, can-do it person, but can take on too much.

BTW: The above is based on impressions of ye, basically via your cards & your birth date. Ye can take it all with a grain of salt.

Regarding the missing card--perhaps 'tis time to look at other aspects? If the card cannot be located, try contacting the publisher for a replacement. That usually works very well.

zorya  01 Dec 2002
i have one more thing to add to the many page of sword meanings already listed....the one that often jumps out and whacks me on the head, is defensiveness.

MeeWah  02 Dec 2002
I agree with Zorya, as it strikes me as defensiveness on occasion. It can also indicate fearfulness; apprehension.

Major Tom  02 Dec 2002
Hiya Malachite! Good to see you back around the neighbourhood. :)

I agree with everything already said but want to add that I always think of pages as messengers. The Page of Swords delivers a message of early warning. Good or bad something big is about to happen. :)

I am with you Major Tom, the pages are of messages...
The Page of Swords to me is usually bad or hasty news, but alot of the time and in the readings I have done recently, it comes up as gossip, telling tales out-of-school, and nasty words exchanged etc. On occasions, it can also mean a quick witted conversation!

Cheers

Thanks for the opinions guys... still mistified and pondering though!

....hmmm......

Diana  03 Dec 2002
Malachite: there's only one thing left for you to do, then. Use this card as a significator, and ask your cards!

Oh, and by the way, it's about time you came back to Aeclectic! Great to see you again. :)

Alex  18 Dec 2002
it's usually a cute page anyway.
