I suppose, the recent discussion on The Empress vs. the High Priestess might have made me a little more receptive to this. Anyway, on my way to work tonight I popped in my tape of the soundtrack from the movie "Tank Girl". This features the song "Girl U Want" by Devo. This song definitely brought to mind The High Priestess ;) ;
She sings from somewhere you can't see,
She sits in the top of the greenest tree,
She sends out an aroma of undefined love,
It drips on down in a mist from above.
(chorus)
She's just the girl, She's just the girl,
The girl you want!
She's just the girl, She's just the girl,
The girl you want!
You hear her calling everywhere you turn,
You know you're headed for the pleasure burn,
But the words get stuck on the tip of your tounge,
She's the real thing but you knew it all along!
(chorus)
Look at you with your mouth watering,
Look at you with your mind spinning!
Why don't we just admit it's all over,
She's just - the girl - you want...
(chorus)

This is my literary image of the High Priestess acknowledging Rilke, one of the greatest poets ever:
You who never arrived
You who never arrived
in my arms, Beloved, who were lost
from the start.
I don't even know what songs
would please you. I have given up trying
to recognise you in the surging wave of the next
moment. All the immense
images in me - the far- off, deeply-felt landscape,
cities, towers and bridges, and un-
suspected turns in the path,
and those powerful lands that were once
pulsing with the life of the gods -
all rise within me to mean
you, who forever elude me.
You, Beloved, who are all
the gardens I have ever gazed at,
longing. An open window
in a country house -, and you almost
stepped out, pensive, to meet me. Streets that I chanced upon, -
you had just walked down them , and vanished.
And sometimes, in a shop, the mirrors
were still dizzy with your presence and, startled, gave back
my too-sudden image. Who knows? perhaps the same
bird echoed through both of us
yesterday, separate, in the evening......
Rilke
translated by Stephen Mitchell
This perfectly holds the mystery and the longing for knowledge that the High Priestess awakens in me. I think this is most perfectly reflected in female spirituality. The language and the ideas are tinged with sexuality as well but that springs from our vitality, energy and humanity.
