I don t understand my deck anymore...!

Hey there, last week I got out cards and tried to do a reading. Since I had a lot to do with moving and school, they have been just lying there in my closet, wrapped up. Ok, now my problem now: I feel like they don t speak to me anymore. Has anyone experienced this and do you have any "cleansing" advice for me? Annika

It has happened to me once or twice, and I think we've all experienced it in way or another. Usually the whole thing is just temporary, making the problem disappear by itself after some time. Another possibilty is that you should consider buying a new deck, due to the fact that this one maybe doesn't suit the present you anymore...

Thanks Damien X... maybe you are right with buying a new deck. Last night I tried to do a reading on my present work situation. I thought this was neutral and non-emotional and therefore a good subject to challenge my deck. Well, it told me nothing but crap. I am pretty hopeless now. Annika

how about posting it on the 'your readings' board - if you remember it all that is. I'm sure lots of people will let you know if it's as 'crap' as you say it is because lots of heads are better than one. I posted a thread in my early days here....as in a couple of weeks ago LOL, and it was asking people how they grounded/centered/focused before a reading. It had many replies, including lots about when they hadn't read with them for a while. Before I came to Aeclectic, I hadn't picked up my deck in three years however reading on the Xchange board with them I got some really good feedback, the best ever in fact. And do you know what? I was actually more in tune with my cards than ever before and I think it was because of the absence, and because of the water under the bridge, I had more life experience to relate to them. So being away from your cards is a good thing sometimes. Try looking at it as you are welcoming back an old friend and that you have lots of news to share with them, and not as someone you barely know or have to do battle with. allibee

Starangel, I had the same experience when I moved across country. Just couldn't "connect" with my deck anymore. It took me 6 years to reconnect. It was this disconnection that lead to me finding Aeclectic. I received loads of good advice about cleansing: smudge them, smudge your new space, cleanse them in the sun, or in the moon. Sleep with them under your pillow again. I tried a few of these things, and eventually tried a new deck. And another. And another. LOL. And in the process, found a deck that speaks to me the way my old one did, but with new insights and messages. So it might be the move. It might be that you need to find a new deck, too. I'd try to adapt the deck to the new space first. But don't give up.

Since I'm going only by initial reaction here, the first thing I thought when I read your post was that maybe things are too "up in the air " for you right now to get an accurate reading. I'd say that if you've had a connection with this deck in the past, don't trash it just yet. Wait until the dust settles and then try again. My gut feeling is that once this time of unsettlement is over, you may find your deck to be more cooperative. Hope this helps !!!

I had a similar first thought to Shadow Wolf's. It sounds like the disruption in your life has left you rather blocked. When I start feeling blocked with any of my decks, I start flipping through the cards... reminding myslef of their meanings, studying them, sometimes finding new meanings in the images. This helps me reconnect and get back on track.

Well, thank you everybody for your kind thoughts and advice. I think I will definetely try to flip through my cards and review them, because I have had pretty accurate readings with them in the past. I am very much at ease with myself, maybe that will help me get back in touch. Annika

Starangel, You might want to put the cards back in the original order and place a crystal on the deck for a few days. I have heard that this works for many people. I have a special ritual that I use for cleansing. I place a stick of burning incense in the east for the element of air. I put a burning candle in the south for the element of fire. I place a bowl of water in the west and a bowl of earth in the north to represent their respective elements. Asking the Father above and Mother earth below for help, I then pass the deck over each element. I also place the deck so it can absorb the energy from the Sun for one day and the energy from the Moon for one night (a full Moon is good for this). Since this is my own ritual, I don’t expect it to work for anyone else. I just posted it as an idea to get you started on developing your own.
