When you feel like you should stop shuffling, that's when you stop shuffling. That, or when your hands get tired.

Dear For.
I couldn't help but stop by and see what the 'bother' was...
Well, first of all, you don't have to worry about bothering anybody in here, because you don't! :) This is the best learning-forum for tarot on the Net, and you're suppost to ask questions. ;) Don't be afraid to, no one will tell you off.
Second. Tarot is all about that special feeling. When you feel you've shuffled the cards enough, you simply stop. You cut the deck where it feels ok to do so. You should go with the gut feeling, also when you read. There are no rules. Do things the way they feel right to you, and this (IMO) is the best way to learn.
And again, don't be afraid to ask questions. That's what we're here for. :)

Right, you'll feel like it's enough. I end up with a bunch of cards in my right hand being chucked into the left, and stop mid-chuck----end up putting the extra at the back of the deck & start dealing off the top. You'll know. Something just says stop.

When you notice little flakes of varnish falling off the cards, you've over-shuffled.

Oh, you're not a bother at all! :D And you know what they say: the only stupid questions are the ones never asked. *wink*
And I agree with the others. You stop shuffling when you feel that it's time to stop.

I remember when I first started to read Tarot I expected to get these major instant messages and feelings from my deck.
But it's much more subtle than that.
Once you stop looking for the signs/feelings you discover they where there all along, waiting for you to just Be.
As for when to stop shuffling...
Trust that whenever you decide to stop will be the right time for you. Simple as that.
Bright Blessings
Evie

I read somewhere that you had to shuffle your cards 7 times, b/c it's a good luck number or something... as usual I totally ignored this kind of thing. I shuffle until I feel it is enough...
Anjo
I used to play cards a lot when I was in the university and I had a friend that shuffled, and shuffled, and shuffled, and almost forgot everything around her... until one day another of my friends said "sonia, you better stop shuffling the cards or else they are going to start to have orgasms right there in your hands!" ;)

ROFL!
I would add that if the cards are giving off whisps of smoke... you're probably shuffling too fast. :joke:
I definitely agree with the general consensus... shuffle till you think it's time to stop. For me, I find that shuffling about 3 times is usually about right. Though sometimes I might do a few more, I seldomly do less. It just works out good for me that way.
Oh, and For... welcome to the forum and don't worry about asking questions... ask away... no one here can actually bite you. Well, not very hard anyway... ;)

I've got nothing to add about shuffling! Just stop when you feel like it.
You don't bother people here, its more likely that you ask questions that others were trying to deal with by themselves. And as my favourite professor always sais: "there are no stupid questions, only stupid answers" (But he'd say it in dutch of course...) And I believe that even if you might get stupid answers, you might even learn something from that.
