I have a book called "Tarot Spellcaster" and am presently gathering materials to try a few of the spells in this book.
Can those of you who have used tarot for this purpose give me any insight ???
Thanks.

I recently got "tarot spells" by J. renée and have tried one spell allready. I have to admit I didn't really believe that it would work, but I was hoping it would somehow. Well... it did!
From the time I cast the spell untill the day it was completed I felt the tension building around me. Last week, when the moon was full everything seemed right and I just knew that the spell would cast its magic that night. Even though I knew something was about to happen, I was stunned with surprise because it was such a new expercience for me.
I have no doubts anymore, there is magic out there! Even if it may go by the name of coincidence....! That doesn't take any of the magic away.
Just be carefull what you ask for, for you WILL get it and it might not be at all what you expected.

But it will probably exactly what I need !!!
The Universe tends to work like that !!!

I have been using Janina Renee's Tarot Spells since it's first printing. YES - it does work! It works because it combines several things on several levels -- something that a supermarket checkout Dell book ' You Can Cast Spells Using Common Kitchen Ingredients' can never do.
Spellwork is:
preparation
intent
doing the spell
letting go
Grabbing stuff off your spicerack and tossing it in a pot of boiling water (-while preparing dinner, filing your nails, and watching Jeopardy and talking on the phone) is never going to cast a spell - much less one that will work.

Yes, tarot spells work. :)
I strongly recommend this practice:
Before casting your spell - do a reading asking what the outcome of your spell casting will be. Once you've done this reading, you can then decide whether or not to proceed with your spell.
In this way, you take full responsibility for your actions because you know the outcome in advance.

Truly the BEST advise I ever heard. I wish everyone dealing with spells would learn this.

Keep in mind though that it is more of a personal affirmation(especially from the J. renee book). Have faith that the spell will work. Do not doubt yourself for an instant. That is where the real "power" lies.

Yes, one of the features of the book is that if you are doing a spell to help a friend to broke his leg = the visuals are all that he IS healed, that the leg IS mended; not that he is on the mend. You affirm the outcome as you want it...not as you 'hope' it will be. The positive affirmations is what makes magick effective. never doubt yourself or cast a spell saying 'gee, I hope this works."

Ok, let me understand something.....I never done a spell in my life, not do I intend to so far but... from this thread I understand that some people tried spells (not knowing if they will work - in other words doubting; and it worked) and others say that it will work only if you do not doubt that it will work....
so.... which is it?
I am sorry if I sound a bit out of pace with everyone but I really don't understand much about this subject.

To clarify my advice given above:
Having decided you want to perform a tarot spell - first do a tarot reading.
If the reading is positive - continue with your preparations and cast the spell.
If the reading is negative - say you learn that your spell will hurt someone else - abandon the spell - don't do it!
If you continue with a spell following a negative reading you have to accept personal responsibility for the outcome - you do know what will happen. })
Karenwhe - In my experience spells will work even if you have doubts - but they work even better if you have faith. ;)

karenwe;
I didn't really believe that the actual spell would work, but I do believe that there is magic out there and I just focussed on the powers both within myself and of the universe to create a very strong visualisation. I practically begged the powers to come to my aid and I think it was the right time for me to be getting this special favour.
So I didn't really believed that is was going to work, but I did believe that it could work.

When I was a little boy, I practiced the catholic religion/faith. Do you know what 'saying a rosary' is? It is where you have a set of rosary beads and you say a prayer for each bead, a different prayer on the big beads, and a lot of other things. Saying a rosary is an act of faith, an intercession. In theory, you should say every one of those prayers as reverently as possible.
**Cut to reality**
People say the rosary as fast as they can like running a race. Somewhere they were told if they say a rosary a day for life they will get a front row seat in heaven. They say it as fast as they can and it has no meaning at all. It's the "I'll do almost anything that gets me blessed upon request" mentality.
Perhaps saying a rosary a day for life will guarantee you a front row seat; maybe reverence has nothing to do with it. The people who speed through get just as much grace as those who took the time to say a 'good' rosary.
And so it goes. Perhaps if you do 'a', burn 'b', and drink 'c' something will happen, even if you are driving down a highway and talking on your cell phone while applying nail polish all at the same time. Perhaps the person who lit the correct incense, did a meditation, checked the phase of the moon, and dressed their altar in a particular flower or colored stone was wasting their time. Both may get the same result.

I think many people enjoy lighting incense and dressing their altar with flowers etc. It helps put them in the right frame of mind. It is not strictly necessary, guess it depends on your capacity to concentrate at will and your confidence in your own powers if you need props or not.
I would probably always use candles and herbs as I love those and always have them in the house anyway, although I don't have them with me in the car ;)
