I've associated the swords with the mind and intellect, and the pentacles with the physical and material, the cups with matters of emotion and the heart, and the wands with passions and creativity, but have you ever thought to simplify this (greatly) into mind, body, heart, and spirit? Just a late-night thought, what do you think?

I think that works well! And I don't think the labels limit the suits since those designations contain so much "I am not contained within my hat and my boots" to quote Whitman.. :D

I would tend to but wands at least half way into heart, and swords at least half way into spirit -- maybe the suits are 'between' these categories rather than within them?

Yep. At its simplest for me, the four suits are mental-physical-emotional-spiritual which is exactly the same thing.

Yep! it really helped in the learning process as well. Once I had that set I could view the cards from different suits from those perspectives.

Wow, Patter, that's complex. I like it! :D Thanks everyone! I'm glad to know that I'm not totally in left field with this.
