Hello all,
I am very new with tarot reading. So far, I have a feeling that doing reading for my own query is tougher than doing a reading for others. The problem is that, when doing self-reading, cards do not "speak" to me nor make any logical sense. Nevertheless, when I do readings for others, the cards are often right on the target.
So, if you have suggestions which will help me to read my own cards, please share.
Thanks.

Sometimes it's REALLY hard doing readings for yourself. Not only do you sometimes not want to hear what the deck says, you can be afraid to hear it--or want to hear something specific so much that the deck either shows you that or just gives gibberish.
Try a few readings. Make sure you distance yourself from things while you shuffle & lay--the more disassociated you are from the reading, the more you can stand back & let the deck do it's thing, the better it'll be.
If you still get readings that just don't work, it could be that you need more time with the deck working with others before it'll read for you. People get blocks sometimes. When I started trying reading for me it ALWAYS came out doom & gloom, but I just stopped doing readings on myself for 2 or 3 years & when I tried it again it worked out ok & the block, whatever it was, was past.

Like HudsonGray said " People get blocks sometimes" its only natural for this to happen. I too get blocks occasionaly, reading for myself & for others.
Have fun learning the Tarot!

Hi Jeank,
Hudson already made a couple of great suggestions. To that I would add, try a different deck. I found that when I picked up a couple of other decks besides the Rider-Waite which I started with, that a lot of things started "clicking" with readings. This included doing readings for myself. I'm not certain why this would be the case, but for me it was. It's something to consider anyway.

Jean74,
I am also new to tarot and it hasn't been all that long since i looked at the cards, and they made absolutely no sense whatsoever. I only wanted to encourage you to be patient with yourself. Keep working with the cards, and yes try a different deck, you might be amazed how one can "click" so much better than another. Throw spreads, post some here for help with the interpretation, you will learn volumes, and people here are very willing to help us newbie's out so we can learn.
I guess my suggestion is to be patient with yourself, you are like a baby learning to walk, you will take a few steps, fall alot and in general put in a lot of energy for very little forward motion. Keep working with those cards, surf the forum, and be patient.
This coming from one of the most impatient people on the planet.
Hope this helps.

All the suggestions are great. I would add my 2c, to write the reading down, and write as if you were reading for someone else. Even if it doesn't make sense, write down what the book says, or whatever comes to mind, as if for someone else. Later on, you may be able to come back and see things from a different perspective, and it will become clearer.
Hope it helps!
