i generally dont let people touch my cards & rarely give others readings .. only my closest friends or ill sometimes allow my hubby to look at them.. he thinks they feel cool & is a bit intrigued ,SOMETIMES.. & he also gves me wonderful insight on some of them... & i know most readers are really picky about allowing anyone to touch their cards.. BUT when it comes to my pets i dont mind it at all.. my cats & dog will often even lay on them when i get really into them & it doesnt bother me .. im wondering if others also feel this way with their pets/cards?

I once had two rabbits. One of them was really quiet and shy, but she seemed to have some sort of respect for the cards. I used to lay the cards out on the floor and she would sit next to them without ever leaping over the cards. The other rabbit never had something of respect, he just disturbed the spread while jumping all over the cards and he even chew a deck in half. He had to clime a couple of shelves to get to the deck, but he maneged and ate half the deck.... So I'm a bit careful nowadays when it comes to animals and tarot decks!

Well I only let people that I'm going to do a reading for touch my cards OR if someone has questions regarding the tarot I might let them touch the cards (depends on the seriousness of course)
Some times I ask a person which deck they would like me to read from. Some say "i dont care, does it matter" others jump at the chance & its seems that the Celtic Tarot is by far more popular than the Celtic dragon, my poor dragons. lol

i have given about 3 people besides him readings..then i learned more about it & got deeper into what the tarot really is.. i just havent felt i know enough to be giving out readings.. know enough & am just not ready.. in so many ways
cant yet put aside my ego 100% lol

Miranda perhaps your husband should be reading cards as well. lol Don't fear the tarot, but embrace it. It is totaly up to yourself if you 'feel' ready to do readings for people. But methinks you should gather up some guniea pigs & do some readings, it won't hurt ;) I haven't hurt anyone so far. hehe

I try tp protect my deck from hungry rabbits the best I can, but other than that everyone who wants to can handle them. I love to show my decks to people. It often makes them less prejudiged against tarot.
I see my deck, esspecially the new ones, as young puppies. They need to be socialized, I take them everywhere.
I guess I sort of feel that my decks need to see the world, need to experience life and get to know people. Even though they are just pictures on paper..
Any power they would posess comes either from my own mind or from coincidence and no hands of strangers can ever effect that IMO.

I've got a cat, who resides at a friends place. She looks like a witches cat, she's gorgeous my 'illusion'. (Im watching a doco on michael jackson. lol) One night I was doing a reading for a friend, we were in the garage, Illusion was asleep on the lounge. All of a sudden she woke up & jumped onto the table & walked over my cards & meowed. She freaked both me & my friend out! I've got a dog 'Amy' & i've never had the cards out when she's been around Nope. Maybe I should see what reaction I get from her?

my mother often wants to look through my decks when i get a new one. some she just hates - like the black and white victoria regina. others she holds on to, almost refusing to let go. and she has been scared all her life of everything occult and witchy as she thinks the cards are. but she is warming up to them. when she sees that they are really just pretty pictures on cardboard and that it is the reader and the querent that gives them power.who knows, maybe one day she will even ask me for a reading.
i try to keep my cards out of the hands of others though, mainly because i am afraid they will damage them, and i just find it annoying when people go through my stuff. and i especially hate cat-hairs on my cards...

had to reply to your post - it's about pets!!
I am cautious with my cards - I will show others the cards but not that keen on anyone else touching them too much - only if they are having a reading - its about respecting the cards. I relate it to my personal space - some people are allowed closer than others.
But as for my dear cat Mr Oscar - he just walks all over them. He sleeps on my bed, tries to preen my hair for me in the middle of the night - he is totally in my personal space - so he is allowed. Plus he can be helpful with readings - he relaxes me.

I tried to keep the cats off my spreads, which at least two of them always seem to want to investigate. Then I realize that it was me, pushing or moving the cat, that was messing up the cards. Most of the time, they can walk across or lie down on a spread without really disordering it.
Of course, it's hard to read with a large, emotionally demanding cat lying right on top of the cards. But he loves me. And you just can't get enough love, can you? The cards can wait for a few minutes.

The Demon Cat absolutely loves to investigate tarot cards - especially in the middle of giving an on-line reading. })
I gently lift her straight up - turn her around and put her on the floor. Generally without any damage to the spread. :)
She's starting to get the message, but sometimes just can't help herself.

I don't mind people looking at my decks as long as they meet to criteria:
1) They are someone I know and like
2) They don't muck up my cards! :P
As for my cat, she loves to sleep on paper. I'm not sure why, but if there is a blanket and a piece of paper, she'll go for the paper. So, when I do reading on the floor, she usually tries to sleep on the cards. My mom recently made a spread cloth for me which is large enough for both the cat and a large spread. Isis will sleep on the cloth while I'm reading now, most of the time. Unfortunately, the cloth was made to help me keep cat hair out of my cards. It's not really working well! :)

My cat doesn´t interest herself much in my spreads, however,I let her touch my cards, and touch my crystals(I somethimes let her do this as a "test" to see if a thing holds negative vibrations. However, for some reason,I don´t want her to touch my faery(or fairy)cards.Just realized this.
I wouldn´t let a person touch my cards(probably not another animal either).
BTW,Silverlotus, she has that thing for paper too, like your Isis.

Thanks for the laugh ya'll.....Loved the Bunny/husband story, LOL, even my husband wanted to know what was so funny...
I want people to touch the deck, allow their energy to get into it while they shuffle the cards.
I was read by a 70 year old lady who had me and her use the purell type of hand sanitizer before we touched the cards. I thought that was a nice way ofsaying you can touch my cards, just not with dirty hands...
It was also a little ritualistic...so I've adopted her approach.
I like sharing all of the beautiful pictures on my new decks and by showing them to my friends, they offer wonderful feedback...
