That Page of Swords. Of all the court cards, it seems to have the most divergent of interpretations. When I first started with my Mythic deck, Sharman-Burke made this card out to be about gossip primarily. Pollack talks about detachment, finding higher ground. I have picked up various meanings for this card and it is one that my 'gut' has no feel for. Here are some other meanings I have uncovered...
- takes risks with communications
- cuts through cloudy thoughts to get to truth
-looking over one's shoulder
- spying, gossip, looking at life as a curious spectacle
-beginning of true independent thought
- detachment as a coping strategy
-critical confrontation with old thought patterns
-spoiling for a fight, feeling personally attacked
- prepare for conflicts, animosity, discord, polemic attacks at work..
I could go on. I know that it is up to me to see the meaning of this card in relation to others, but I have no feel for this card. How do the rest of you view this card? What would it mean to you in, say, a one card daily reading?
Thanks, Lawguy51

For me the Page of Swords is a rather marginal person - not someone that goes with the crowd or finds a need to adapt to social norms. I wouldn't go so far as saying he's excentric, but he's slightly out of touch with reality sometimes.
He's a curious fellow - likes to explore and discover things, but he's kind of immature so this can lead him to use his knowledge in ways that are not always healthy - he can use it to manipulate, he can play games with people. Rather unstable.
He's no fool though - his mind works quickly and he is also pretty courageous - a litlte dare-devil at times.
One thing is for sure - he's not boring to be with. Although he may tire you out after a while, as you may not have his energy. If he takes you out for the evening, it may be to a casino - so watch out for your money! ;)

I like to think of the upraised sword as a mental antenna going up. Although once, it did signify a golf outing!

Honestly, I was not kidding about the golf outing--
The question was what the client could do to help relieve stress, etc. The other cards indicated taking trips with her children, etc, but it also turned out she played golf with them too. When I looked at the pose in the RW deck I was using, it all made sense!
Tarot really is situational on many levels.

you know that there are some people in this forum that can't take a joke, and still, you choose to post one, knowing that there will be a cascade of revengefull, hysterical replies about nothing, almost as if you'd commited a crime of sorts: that's a Page of Swords behaviour. A somewhat ill-dignified curiosity about human behaviour, and the willingness to try out it for size.
Usually one does not start out like that, but after having been hit on the head several times for nothing, one starts feeling like "oh well, I can take one more, let's see what happens and show these people... how intolerant they really are".
Oh well, that's my Page of Swords reply.
IN Brazil people have a saying that applies well to that card: "a person that likes to watch the circus burn in fire".

I think I have to disagree with that one Alex - I never saw the Page the Swords as having much of a sense of humor. More suspicious to me maybe.
The card that might fit the description above could be the Tower- the electrical jolt that punctures stagnation & rigid structures on different levels & reveals hidden truth, bringing about change. Nobody likes that!! (but me)

Lawguy, In the Rider Waite deck, the page is ALWAYS of gossip and harsh words spoken, and I have had a couple of readings where it indicates bad or hasty news...but all in all, it always is about someone bitchin about someone else...to me anyway!;)
BTW - Tarotphelia, I totally agree, the pictures in the cards sometimes is exactly what they are trying to portray to you.
I had the Page of cups for a daily card once, and I was very sick in bed, later that day I realised that the card is offering me a cup...(my husband was trying to get me to drink this aweful concoction, and I wouldn't have it) but I ended up drinking it and the next day I was so much better...that day the card was literally speaking..:D
Cheers

For me the page of swords in RW has always shown up as uncovering some of the hidden truths around me - through recieving information or me seeking it out in a manner that is a bit sneaky :)
Interestingly though the princess of swords in thoth for me is more about arguements, upsets, someone causing trouble, hurtful words are said.
At first I thought it was just my reaction to the cards as they are quite different to look at - but looking over my journal I can see the difference.
All of your comments about the page/princess of swords I related to.

Absolutely brilliant Diana! *applause*
Does this remind anyone else of someone we all know? })
