Speaking of leapers---

These are the cards that jump out at you when you're shuffling, landing on the floor, table or lap.

If you're doing a 5 card lay, should these be the first cards laid down or should they be kept to the side, have you do the layout, then look at the leapers as additional info on the outcome, or....what?

Not sure about how to use them.

most of the time I set my leapers of to the side nd take them to represent the deeper foundation/answer to my Q....on occasion if I sense them to be included in the spread, I will.
At times a bunch cards will donate themselves...I will forget the spread and read just those cards.

I keep the card(s) in mind but shuffle them back in. Seems to me that it's just a good idea to read with a full deck. Give the cards all the words they might need to say whatever they need to say. And if the card wants to end up in the spread, it will float back to the top in shuffling. Or the bottom where it will STARE at me... I still add the meanings as kind of an overall take on things at the end though.

Of course, once in a while I'm just clumsy and drop something. But that's pretty obvious as it tends to be half the deck in my lap, not just a card or two...

I recently started using a new deck and keep getting the same leaper time and again. No other cards jump the deck but this one and when I put it back in, That is the card that ends up on top... I feel that this deck is trying very hard to tell me something and Im just to surprised each time it happens that I haven't done a reading any more. I just stick to the jumper and try to understand what the hell it is trying so hard to tell me.
Before I started using using this deck I had an occasional jumper and just used it to frame the reading, give it a background.

to me the leapers answer what question you have asked, especially if 2 or more leap out. But I always do a reading, even if a card leaps out.I just put it back in the deck & off I go :)

i do like the majority here it seems, take notice of the card(s) then put them back and shuffle once or twice more and then deal the cards.

but i hardly ever get leapers anymore. i used to but perhaps i am just better at shuffling now:)

i do got a few decks that like to spill half the deck on the floor though - cause they are sticky. like glastonbury and daugthers of the moon that is also round and HUGE.

Hmmm... odd.... I can't say that I've ever had this happen to me. I've occasionally dropped a card... usually one (or more) from the bottom of the deck or from one half or the other when I'm cutting. But I've never had what I would think of as a card jump out of the deck. Though this could be because of my method of shuffling...

You may use them any way you see fit.

Personally, when a card literally jumps out and says, "HEY - Look at ME!" I like to pay attention. If it's one or two, and for me it always is, I use them as the first cards in my spread.

This question reminds me of the Talking Heads song For Artists Only: Pay attention! Pay attention! I'm talking to you and I hope you're concentrating. }) Take it easy baby - take it easy.

The same applies to cards that "drop out". :)

Any way that feels right to you is, of course, the answer.

I generally don't use the cards that fall out when I'm shuffling. But that's because I'm an awful shuffler, have small hands, and use large decks. ;)

If I am really paying attention to my shuffling and a card still pops out, I note what it is and put it back in the deck. After doing my reading, I pull that card out again (assuming it didn't show up in the reading) and read it as showing what is really on my mind right now.

Wetsheep made a wonderful little spread for "leaper" cards.
Here's the link: Leaper Spread

I haven't used it yet but I definitely will try. I usually just get annoyed when cards pop out and I just put them back in, but I do look at the card and make a note of which one popped out.

Hope that helps! :)

With the leapers I put them to one side and read them after I've done the spread. I think they usually have a reason for coming out of the deck so I treat them as clarifiers. :)

I only count cards that leap from the deck if they land face up, and in the right direction (I mean...if it doesn't land sideways). And I don't normally use reversals unless it's a card that leapt out and landed in the reversed position.

I just put it to the side and use it as an "overall" or "summary" card. So far, any cards that leap out during a reading have all been significant in my experience! :)

Hmm...there are two ways you could take that. If I didn't have a full deck I wouldn't be studying tarot at all, much less teaching school.

As for cards that jump out, I think they should be sent to a leaper colony.

I have seen leapers to carry the most important messages in some readings.

I always put importance on leapers.
