In a search for inspiration and as an intellectual exercise to understand the court cards better I started to wonder about compatability.
So, for example, who would bring most happiness to a heterosexual queen of cups? Conversely, who should she avoid like the plague?
Looking at Thoth interpretations, it seems to me that her best chance of happiness and fulfilment lies with a 'knight [king] of swords character' or maybe knight [king] of wands. The man to avoid would be the prince [knight] of cups.
I'm not so sure about RSW compatabilities......
What's your view?

There's a whole chapter on this in the French book 'psycho-tarot' I just picked up in "my country"
It is quite poignant when you look at the Marseilles courts, and the direction of their gazes. (These seem so much more human that the RWS). Put the courts next to eachother and see who seems to be looking lovingly at whom. :)

-_-''
That leads to vivid imagination.
Why not bring it to reality and see whether you could find anyone with these traits and really observe their reactions towards one another. Take your parents as experiments.
My dad is the King of Cups and my mum is the Queen of Pentacles. As a result the both of them hit off well.
Or even look at the nature of their elements. Using my parents as example, my dad (Fire of Water) matches with my mum (Water of Earth). Rather impossible to match? Look again. My mum is capable of cooling down my dad's fury and my dad in return softens my mum, in fact, they reciprocate!
What do you think of my assumptions? I merely made a raw guess in it. Hope what I said struck an idea which sparks further insight.
Compatiblity can only be seen especially through the third person's view.

Firemaiden,
This idea of examining at who are looking the courts in the Marseilles is really interesting.
I wanted to try not only at who they look, but also how interact ones with the others (still when they are not looking each other).
So, I tried this exercise with the four pages yesterday night. And it was really insightful to understand the meaning of each one alone. Is very surprisingly how the same face "change" when is between different cards.
Think i will try to do it with all court cards although it will take long time, since there are lot of combinations...
If i have time i will translate what i wrote about the pages and post here. Maybe someone else find this interesting too.

Thanks Firemiaden! Now this has been seriously GOOD FUN !!!
With sincerest apologies for my disrespectful flippancy....
MEDIEVAL MATCHMAKING [grimaud-style]
The Queen of Cups has been told by her advisors that she must marry and she is not well pleased. But being polite, and at heart a kind soul, she prepares herself to meet the potential suitors. Try as she might though, she is unable to remove a somewhat anxious and sceptical expression.
First to arrive are the Deniers family. "Oh no" she groans miserably, "it's the nouveau-riche bunch again.... all show and no go". She smiles knowingly as she reflects in silence. "What a foolish valet, so much to learn..... but at least he's not as creepy as the other two. Look at them eyeing my crown. I wouldn't put it past that cavalier to hit me over the head with that baton [he sure wouldn't know what else to do with it] and make off with my crown. And the king...... put your money away dear, my riches are far more valuable than you could afford".
With the Deniers safely on their way, the Coupe cousins are next to arrive. "Now why have they bothered to come" she groaned, "there's no way I'm marrying a cousin. You only have to look at the valet to see why. Plueeeze.... angst-ridden teens need not apply! Go away and write me a nice poem about the misery of existence, there's a love...... Uh oh! Now I wonder, is the cavalier just a self-obsessed depressive or a psychopath in the making? Either way, the least I see of him, the better....... No way! There is no way I'm marrying that king. Let yourself go a bit, haven't you dear?"
"Now that's more like it" she smiles, as the Batons arrive. Her eyebrows rise with amusement as the valet presents himself, "yes dear, that's a lovely big baton you have. Now go away and learn to use it" she sniggers. "Mmm..." she smiles coquettishly at the cavalier, trying and failing to drag her eyes away from his baton, "one could get deep down and dirty with you for a few nights... could be fun, drop by again sometime when I'm bored with my husband.... Oh my" she smiles with wry amusement at the king, "we really do think we've something special, don't we! But what a little crown we have...... Nope, I'll pass, thanks. I'm looking for something a little less cocksure.... ever heard of an air of mystery - no? I didn't think so".
"Oh not more" she groans, as the Epee clan ride into town, then perks up as they draw near. "Oooo, he's nice" she smiles expectantly at the valet, "but he's to wrapped up in himself to even notice me...... Oh yes! I like the look of the cavalier... but why, oh why is it that when I fancy someone they don't even give me a backward glance?".
And then - just as the queen of cups is about to retire to the solitary solace that only her trusty Bob can provide [bob's her little pet, for those who didn't know], along comes the King. "Omg, he's gorgeous...... ooooooo" she shudders, involuntary spasms of the delight to come, "see how he looks at my acoutrements.... is this lurvvvvvve that I'm feeling?"
Cue Barry White - or violins if you prefer.

It shall be obvious to any extremely well read and intellectual persons such as myself, that the King in question is none other than "Laurent" of the Sleeping Beauty Series. Without going into further detail, may I simply wish the Queen of Cups many years of the above quoted phenomenae.
