I decided a few hours ago that I should make an effort to fall in love again, maybe .... perhaps :O)
Whereas I usually see the Devil in a relationship spread as something not too good and to be broken free from, I got this in the area of my emotional strength. Now what the Sam Hell does that mean? This is a totally new aspect of the Devil to me!
(I wasn't sure whether to put this on readings or cards so pls excuse me Moderators)

I'm going to look to the Capricorn aspect of the Devil. There are those that face the mountain and see no way past it, where Capricorn is a mountain climber. No mountain too high! These goats have a persistant attitude that keeps them going, almost as if they know it's gonna be a long hard road, and it DOESN'T scare them! They are also stubborn. In a relationship, they look for the longterm and are SO commited, but getting there might take time because the goat needs to be sure the ground they walk is stable. Very analytical and cautious.
this is GOOD when having been heartbroken and fear taking a chance....once again I feel the common thread....glad to see you back!

Hi, allibee. I don't know what deck you are using, but my initial impression of the Devil card in this position is that self-control plays a large part in the area of your emotional strength -- relaxing some of your defenses (related to your conscious decision to open yourself to love), but not in a gullible or undiscerning manner.

For a different view (but what would you expect from me)…
Perhaps you may want to journey into the darkness of yourself in order to free the prisoner within…

The Devil is a helluva creative creature.
He can deal with matters of the darkness as well as matters of the light.
He's strong. He's a great person to have in bed. (Sexuality is also part of creativity.)
He's not scared of things - he knows he can control everything no matter what.
He gets to the core of things - superficiality is not his scene.
Well, that's about all that comes to mind now.

Diana... thank you for these insights into the Devil. They are wonderfully accurate for the project I am working on that I told you about.
Ohh, and the Sexuality as part of creativity thing...hmm, that explains a lot, says the King of Wands.. winks...

I've been told I'm the Devil in bed ~
But I think it's because I prodded the guy in the butt with a fork to get him to move over and not sleep diagonally...
Maybe seeing El Diablo in this position could indicate that you've seen what you consider to be your own demons, faced them down, and now you won't be fooled anymore. That you have the emotional strength that only comes from ending up in some sort of Hell, living through it, and becoming emotionally stronger as a result.
One Geek's Opinion.

As well as everything others have said here, (Cuz all the suggestions here are great!) I might say that the Devil in an emotional strength position relates to you knowing how to be persistant and not let go of something good... Holding on to it through thick and thin.

by not risking love, one gives into the devils true desires.
I DESIRE THAT YOU BE LONELY ALL YOU LIFE,
THAT YOU SHALL NEVER BE HAPPY
THAT YOU SHALL BE THE MARTYR FOR YOUR SPIRITUAL CAUSE,
that by denying the choice of lovers, the devil has already won,
if there is a spiritual battle in the first place,
allow me to expand on that,
i don't mean the actual devil lol
but the devil inside us,, the one who says destroy yourself, you are no good, recall what you did when you were young, what you did to your best friends.. and
and as they say in bugs bunny when sam starts jumping around shooting his guns ..
"ahhhh shadddduppp "
i choose not to be lonely all my life.
i choose to be happy
i choose not to marytry myself but to find another situaiton for the cause,
(i don't mean that jesus by being a martyr gave in to the "devil " )
but the ideal of a spiritual person who has no attachments in this world..
(like the notion i thought jedis weren't allowed to love )
and to use the notion of vulcans here :O)
spock father was sent on a diplomatic mission for peace of two worlds, while his wife was gravley ill, she told him to go,
(is that martyrdom, or non attachment for the needs of the many ?)
he tried to finish as much as soon as he could but couldnt' ,, and he sense through the vulcan mind connection that happens between two married couple she was drifting away ..
so he took a moment to be with her in spirit and she said on her death bed to spock sarek is here (or something to that effect 0
spock had great anger towards his father , it came across as righteous judgement "you weren't there when she died "
and then spock later on mentioned something about what his mother said when she said .. and sarak started to cry (or get emtoional i think as vulcans hardly cry lol ) and shared the story of what he felt when he connected to his loved one in her last moments.
what we have here, is spiritual person, (i find vulcans surpingly spiritual ) who has masterd his mind, having no attachments but still great love for his mate,
the ideal of lovers without the devil energy ,
can it really be ?

Drawing your attention back to around the beginning of this thread, I thought it might be interesting to add at this point that the guy I fell head over heels in love with is, in fact .... a Capricorn

LOL! Well, there's your "strength in the devil"!
Just remember, in many a deck, the Devil is actually Pan--goat hoove, goat horned, devilish--but by no means a devil.
I think, as wisely suggested by Astraea, that we should remember, we can become additcted to (chained to) restraint as we can to indulgences. Sometimes, true freedom and control is found not in being prim and proper, but in chosing to follow the pan pipes, drink deeply of the wine, dance the night away and in letting yourself be seduced over to the dark side ;)

This is just coming off the top of my head without reading the replies, but perhaps it means not letting your past pains chain you? It takes alot of strength to let go of the past, to let go of the emotional baggage of past relationships.

I have done 2 readings for men. They were at different times & not related or knowing of each other. The first card for both of them Devil (R).
I think they were not letting the past pains chain them.
(like Triquetra posted)
They were both in not so good relationships. I just thought of them breaking away from the chains they wear freely.
Mabee the Devil has more of an "emotional tie" to each situation. Mabee the chains emotionally holds us to where we are with our darkness.
Just an idea.

Alibee,
Are you a Cancer sun? b/c if he is a Capricorn sun, your suns may be in opposition. It's a connection that I've always found worked well w/me (a Cap). Caps and Cancers are both 'female' signs, as well as both cardinal signs. They both share a deep need for security, trust and commitment (or at least, well defined boundaries) in a relationship.
Also, have you ever seen Thoth's Devil? It's very blatently phallic.
Crowley writes in The Book of Thoth:
"This card represents creative energy in its most material form... [capricorn] is the most exalted of the signs; it is the goat leaping with lust upon the summits of earth... He represents the finding of ecstasy in every phenomenon, however naturally repugnant; he transcends all limitations; he is Pan; he is All."

Basically, the closer the days you are born (say you're Jan 4 and he's July 4), the stronger the connection b/w your suns. 10 days apart and the connection weakens considerably.
Having this contact means your suns are 'talking' to each other so to speak and gives you a special connection. Even if that is not there, the fact that the signs are opposite each other in the zodiac will bestow a natural attraction due to the shared values of loyalty, trust and commitment.

dionisiac .... I prefer to think of it sensual and spontaneous ... but yes Casia, also true of the other end of the spectrum
