Now this might not be an original idea, but I 'accidently' came up with it while doing a reading for myself {which I plan to share in Fey study group}
I did the 3 card Fey DREAMS JOY & MAGIC spread.
I presented my Q and then before I drew the cards, I gave answers to each position. I wrote what my dreams where pertaining to the issue, where joy fit in, and how magic would ome into play. I drew my cards and the results where quite niffty.lol.
so much so that I made questions for other spreads {again, I will share later...way past bedtime}
but I'm wondering if this IS really an original idea? is there a book that talks about it? is there anyone who has done this & how was the reading? what where your thoughts?

I don't know if it was an idea that ever came up in any books as I haven't come across it yet. But I've tried it before...I actually used to do that regularly at one point- back when I shortly started to read Tarot (about 12-13 yrs ago). I came up with the idea because I was having trouble reading for myself. I started thinking that maybe I was bending all the card's meaning to suit my own thinking, desires, fears, or pessimism, etc. So what I did was lay out the cards faced down first, then I would write down my own thoughts pertaining to the positions. After I was done with that, I would put my notebook aside and finally turn the cards face up and read them. Then I would compare between my thoughts and what the cards say. It was actually a great way for me to learn about the cards as well as about myself...what I was really thinking and feeling regarding an issue, etc.
I don't really do this anymore...but there are times, I still do...especially when I'm reading about a particularly hard situation for myself. It helps me sort out my thoughts as well as pick out what I need to pay attention to in my own reading...and trust that I'm not seeing things that aren't there in the cards. =)

Here is the spread with the Fey deck
http://www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php?s=&postid=147660#post147660
and here are the questions I formed for a few well used spreads.
CC~
1. what's going on
2. what do I see
3. how do I feel
4. what lead up to this
5. what do I want/need to do?
6. what might happen
7. how this effect me
8. what might people around me do
9. what am I afraid of?
10. what do I want in the end
some easy ones
past: what has happened
present: what is happening now
future: what does 'tommorrow' look like
mind: what do I think
body: how is my health
spirit: where am I in my heart & soul
working on a few more....
I'm very interested in the interaction between the answers given and the cards drawn...do share.

I just stumbled on this thread and I think it could be just what I need right now. I feel like I am getting stale doing readings for myself, I think this might offer some new insights.
I also think you can learn a lot about yourself this way, and also see more easily where you have to correct yourself to get to where you actually want to go.
Thanks for the great idea lunalafey !

I have always had problems reading for myself- it's been one of my biggest blocks to learning Tarot. I think I will try your idea, Lunalafey. Thanks for sharing it!
