There's individual threads about the Kings, Queens, Knights & Pages--the Queens has been up in the forefront lately, and it has a pretty good breakdown of how they're all different, yet are all aspects of the Empress.

I think they're over under the Talking Tarot board, as well at the Using Tarot board here.

That and check out 13's listing about all the cards at http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/basics
and also over at http://www.learntarot.com

Both are very good sites that you can compare the court cards (and all the other cards) one by one.

Take the courts separately when you learn. Lay out all the pages in a vertical row, and the Knights next to them, etc. Look at how all the pages are the same, but all different because of the suit they're in. Same for the others, take them one after another & they'll stick in your mind better and make a lot more sense.

Plagiarized from someplace but I don’t know where.

For starters you need to truly understand the suits.

Then:

Page – Air - The Childlike aspect of the Suit element
Knight – Fire - The Movement or the way the Suit element is used
Queen – Water - The Receptive quality of the Suit element
King – Earth - The Social quality of the Suit element

So take the element of the court card and combine it with the element of the suit and play with it, then add in the aspect of the court card…

Enjoy!

along with Umbrae's courts element (Like pages being air), each suit tends has an element.

So..
Swords=Air
Wands/Staffs=Fire
Cups=Water
Pentacles/Coins=Earth.

There's been many debates on the Swords/Wands issue. Some people like Wands as fire (personal, I do), and some prefer wands as air. Use whatever works for you.

So lets combine one. Like, say you pull Page of Wands.
The Page gives the Airy quality along with the Wands giving the Fire quality. A Firey-Air (Haha, thats me :)).

Hope this helps...if I confused you I'm sorry.

we have to know how to crawl before we walk, at least many of us do.

You get great replies here, and I wanna try make it even simpler.

You have 4 court cards in each suit. That is a family.

Basic meanings for the persons in the family:

The King is the father, the boss, the ruler, the provider, the one watching over his family and taking care of their needs.

The Queen is the mother, the one that keeps the family together, the one nurturing and taking care of the household and all the sub boss tasks so to speak.

The Knight is the young man making things happen. He moves rapidly and is very difficult to get a hold on. He is the one taking actions and follows up on plans and dreams and try very hard to make it all come true.

The Page is the child of the family, (s)he has all the potentials of the family, though have still not figured out where and what they will use the potentials for. As the saying goes “ To hear the truth ask a child” all the pages is the possible messengers of letters, messages or other kind of news being brought to the one being read for.

Basic key words for the suits:

Pentacles: earth, materials, money, health, ambitions, security, values, possessive, responsibility.

Cups: water, feelings, emotions, love, addictions, vulnerability, hopes, fears, involvement, heartfelt commitment.

Swords: air, thoughts, intuition, communication, dreams/nightmares, blockages, conflicts, working with in.

Wands: fire, passions, projects, relations, hard felt commitment, determination, achiever, goal minded, velocity, drive.

So... longgong, there is no easy way to get around the courts, you will meet many readers who have been reading for years and years who still is puzzled by the court cards. I hope this has helped you just a little further in your studies.
