Reading for Self

I would like to know if anyone has a problem with doing self-readings. It seems I am always very accurate when reading for other people, yet when I attempt to do a reading for myself, I get cards all over the place the make no sense to me. They never tell me anything cohesive. Am I doing something wrong? Or this a phenomena of Tarot readers I am unaware of? Help!

Howdy TCarbonell,

Well... reading for myself is an on-again/off-again thing. For some time when I was first starting out I only tried reading for myself and had a lot of trouble, much the same kind of problem as you mention. However, as I've continued doing more readings for others, gaining experience from that, I've found that I'm able to do better readings for myself. However, I've also learned that I have to look at the cards and think through the reading just as though I were doing the reading for another person. Thats when my self readings seem to make the most sense and flow the best. I'm not sure just how I do that though... :| Heck... there are many times when I just can't be that objective... but those times are usually because the reading is going real well and is really hitting home anyway.

Right now, I haven't been doing readings for myself lately... I guess this wasn't a great deal of help. There is another recent thread about self-readings;

I do have such experiences. Sometimes I don't even think they were of anyhow related. Breathe in Breath out. Relax. What should come to you will eventually do. Night.

i have done many readings for my self and they all seem to do fine. i have done readings on job questions, moving, spiritual, and others that you really cant put under a catigorie. i have even through a long drawn out procese of elimination yes/no spread, found out when my youngest child would be borne. Nope no problems here, i just have to be in the mood, i guess. Accualy now that i think of it when i have a question in mind for myself i found that i send a couple days thinking " i should do a reading on that" then out of the blue one day i'll sit down and do it. i dont know if its procrastination or just waiting for the right timeing
i dont know:)

I too have had problems reading for myself though I think I've been getting better. The readings for myself often make no sense to me. However, if I put it up on the "Your Readings" board, I get very clear and correct answers from fellow Aeclecticans. I would recommend that you continue to do readings for yourself, but definitely try to focus more as you ask the question. Try to clear your mind and not influence the outcome. You want to see what's true and not just what you want to see. I find that if I'm stressed when I ask the question and lay out the cards, they often reflect my stressed mental state more than they reflect a good answer. Also, don't give up right away, write down your own unterpretation. Then, if you're still in doubt, post on the "Your Readings" board where there are plenty of people who are extremely helpful.

Well, I'm glad to see I'm not the only one that has had trouble reading for herself. I did think about what was said here, and I think that it's very important to focus on the question. Sometimes, I think what may happen to me is that I get too emotional over the issue I'm doing a reading about, and I can't get a clear reading because the emotions are blocking it. If I can just focus on the question, I might get a better reading. I'm not gonna give up though - I love Tarot too much to do it just for other people!

Try and remember that when reading for ourselfs or others 90% of the time we know the answers allready. the hard part is admitting to ourselves that the answer the cards are giving is the true answer especially when we don't like the reply given.
try meditation to look deeper into who you are and what you want then try again.
i only ever have a problem on self readings when i don't like the answer. and the answer to that is change the path you are on. and the answer may change.
good luck

Well... after taking a bit of a hiatus from doing self-readings, I did one for myself a couple of days ago. It was a very good reading, gave me much to think about and brought things out where I could examine them in my conscious mind. It also flowed very smoothly. I do believe that having taken the break from my self-readings for a while, as well as having been doing a lot of readings for others over the past few months, has really helped a lot.

For what it's worth...
