Hi gang,
I hope this topic hasn't already come up. I searched and couldn't find a thread on it.
Basically, I'm kinda stumped about having the Sun in the obstacle position of a reading. Would that mean no problems, no real obstacles, or how would it be an obstacle?
Just curious.

Well... I guess the value of the Sun as an obstacle depends on the rest of the spread
One thing though, maybe the Sun is warning about being a bit cocky or over confident too soon
I wouldn't really take it negatively more like a word of advice saying that for now it's better to keep whatever you're doing or whatever is happening as your little secret.. the sunlight might be *blinding* and bothering people around
Another one, though I feel most people won't agree with this, the Sun has always reminded me of the most basic aspects of family, so maybe there is something there

Well it depends greatly on the reading (I read very intuitively). But, one potential reading for the Sun as an obstacle is that the querent is letting their pollyanna attitude distract them from the matter at hand. You know what I mean?
The other thing is that the Universe could be throwing too many good things their way, which distracts from the matter at hand. Kind of a variation on the pollyanna attitude... there could also be a problem with a person in their life who has that sunny attitude on the outside, but is really scheming against them...
Like I said, depends on the reading -- the relationship of all the cards to each other. I generally would not say "there's no obstacle," but I did have a reading once where that was the case. (though, that person was just asking me to read for them to know what the good things in their life were... in that case, I knew ahead of time there was no real problem at stake.)
Even the most profound blessing can cast a shadow. Even the sunniest cards can represent obstacles or pitfalls...
hope this helps,

yeah, Indigo lady -- I agree. The Sun reminds me of family and children sometimes, too:-)

The Sun is mostly pretty good but you have to remember that too much of a good thing can be bad. (That Polyanna thingie).
You can also be 'blinded' by the Sun, where it shines too bright to see reality around you.
And if you're out in it's exposure too much you can get a really bad Sunburn.

The Sun, reversed - as I think it would be read if in obstacle position, reminds us that with every sun rise there will also come a sun set, so you should not just lay back and enjoy, happiness and life does not happen while just watching it. It needs constantly nourishment and taking care of.
Like if you do not remember to feed the horse, it will not take long before it collapses and no longer will be able to carry you to your destination.
Meaning that, yes you are on the right track here, though be careful that you do not get to lazy thinking you have reached your goals, the circle has not ended yet.
So DeLani, the Sun could be telling about someone resting to soon on loose soil,
Horse is not going to make the fence if it is not fed,
Waving that red banner of yours is a hard and shallow thing to do, if you didn't truly work your own way to get there and you gave all you had in you to reach that goal.
Does it mean anything to you?

Depending upon the particular reading and other cards involved, I would tend to see the Sun in the obstacle position as a warning about overoptimism and wishful-thinking, and/or authority figures.

the sun can mean clarity. sometimes clarity/seeing the truth can be very painful.
or it could be telling you that you are not looking at the issue clearly, maybe you need to shed a little light on it.

The sun usually reveals that which was hidden (notice it follows the moon?).

When I see the sun, I sometimes think of a group or team of people who work together creatively and productively, with the sun indicating, in particular, the center of that group. Who does it revolve around?

Hi DeLani,
This was an interesting question... To me The Sun is that glowing, things are great, I'm happy, type of thing that most of the other people mentioned. As an obstacle card, this would immediately make me think of a person who is refusing to see a stumbling block which is right in front of them. This is the person who goes on spending money like it grows on trees, even though their checking account is at 0 and their credit cards are maxed out. This is the person who absolutely refuses to acknowledge that something has gone, or is going wrong. This is the person who looks at things through "rose-colored glasses" - everyone is to be trusted and nothing can ever go wrong. And because of this outlook, they forget that sometimes a person can't be trusted and so they lose money to a scam artist. Or they figure their car will just keep going no matter what, then their engine freezes up because there's no oil in it.
If I saw The Sun in a "blockage" position in a reading, I would think that this is a person who needs to be a little more grounded in reality. Having a positive outlook on life is a very good thing... until we lose touch with the realities of life. If a person continually walks around with their head in the clouds, they're liable to walk right off the edge of a cliff.
I hope this has been of some assistance...

Hi Delani,
I see the Sun as sometimes indicating being very much in the concious, outwardly focused mode. I think being too much in the concious realm (ie: out of touch with the unconcious, intuitive) may make one rusty at using thier intuition to pick up on subtle ques- like the motives behind the smiling scam artist. Because your own shadows are (temporarily) conquered, doesn't mean everyone else's actions are what they seem. There is something to maintaining the balance of being "as clever as snakes and as innocent as doves.".

Hi De Lani :)
When I think of how the Sun could be an obstacle, "Too hot, too fast" comes to mind.
Also, the Sun is the source of lifegiving warmth, but also the source of electromagnetic storms. Those sunspots and solar flares can wreak havoc with communication and navigation satellites, which can lead to frustration and delays here on the planet.
If the sun's light is too bright, it's harsh. One experiences a painful glare, and has dificulty seeing.
And something being illuminated by full sunlight hasn't even a vague hope of retaining ANY mystery...At noon, there are no illusions.
Conversely, if the Sun is out, everything is pleasant and fun, there may be a tendency to get lazy, and ignore important business.
Just a few of my scattered thoughts here.

Perhaps the Sun as an obstacle could refer to something being revealed that you would prefer to keep secret or private.
I also see the Sun as related to children because of the astrological association with the 5th house. The Sun rules Leo, which is an outgoing, sometime overexuberant sign -- so perhaps the Sun as an obstacle could relate to that as well.
