Hi longgong, welcome to Aeclectic! ;)
Card meanings aren't set in stone, they depend on the spread, the surrounding cards, the questions, etc, which is why you will find many different meanings.
However, a good place to start is Thirteen's Tarot Basics here on Aeclectic. Try working from those meanings.
Hope this helps!

Hi!
I can only agree with what Tarotlady just said, and want to add that we all develop our ways of relating to the cards. So it is YOU who do the reading, not the cards...
So my advice is read all the sites, and be aware that all the meanings that are on those sites are just the author's perspective. Seeing things from different perspectives will, however, strengthen and deepen your own perspective - which is what you will need to develop.
It will take some time, but it will be well worth it, I promise! :)
Good luck and have fun!
Jenny :)

You don't say which deck you have--it could be that you've got one that the artist did their own meanings or interpretations for. The Arthurian doesn't follow the Rider Waite meanings exactly, which is why I've put off learning that one. The Haindl is closer to the Thoth than to the Rider, so I can't use the standard there either. See if there's a book out for your specific deck, that should help a lot. If you have a standard Rider Waite deck or one of the clones, then Thirteen's basics will help, as will www.learntarot.com If you've got the Thoth then you need to focus on the specific meanings that go with those cards because they're not the same as the Rider Waite. Ditto if you have a Marsailles deck. Or a non-standard deck (there are so many out now, that it's hard to narrow them down into categories). I wonder if this is the cause of the confusion.
