This morning as I was shuffling the Mood Garden deck for my daily 3-card draw (issue, advice, outcome), half the deck fell on the floor. They were all face down but the eight of pentacles. I guess that was my reading for today.
As I looked at the card and saw those eight beautiful balloon-looking pentacles drifting up into the sky toward the full moon in the sky, I took it to mean that I was creating a lot of beautiful dreams...basing my life on illusion.
A friend said that the 8P is about dreams coming true, beauty and bounty will be mine.
Other comments, please?
Goddess bless.
(When I saw my posting, I realized that balloon had two "ll's." Thus the edit.)

I always see this card as the perfectionist; living life along the straight and narrow; paying bills on time; working hard; being productive; and also being good and working hard at your craft.
Maybe you should pick your head up from your bench and have some fun!
That's you right?!

8 of P is about (in my book): Craft, skill, diligence. A methodical approach that leaves no loose ends. it's about Focus. It reminds us that whatever task we undertake, we do it with all of our heart and soul. It's about not placing blame upon anyone for our mistakes and failures. We do not look for approval except for the knowledge that we did our best.

looking at the 8 of coins of the moon garden...pain, paintbrush, and a beautiful garden which seemed to have been created by the painter who owns the paint and brush
i agree with umbrae re its meaning...Craft, skill, diligence
which is similar to joan bunning's keywords...knowledge, diligence, detail
but i cannot contest your interpretation of it...illusion
why?
because sometimes when i do my readings, i also get messages which are totally unrelated to traditional/bookish meanings of the cards
trust your intuition my friend

I would place more emphasis on the experience or insight you had, rather than the card per se. If you 'saw' the pentacles rising to the full moon, then the meaning is that, which you intuitively grasped.
There are other interpretations of the Full Moon, such as reason as the handmaiden of intellect (The Sun), your labours are the fruit of your reason; or as the symbol of the Goddess, in which case you could see your labours as an offering.
Even with your own interpretation, of basing your life on an illusion - what is life but an illusion? if you have built beautiful dreams and aspirations from life, then they are sent as offerings to the divine, not something that is of no value.

Greetings Red Emma.
When I first read your description of the card I had two immediate thoughts:
1--it takes work, i.e. conscious thought, energy and effort, even to make a balloon. Sending balloons, i.e. dreams, ideas, hopes, aspirations, to the heavens may be you wanting your dreams or hopes to be realized in the wider world, perhaps your aspirations are larger, that is a good larger, than you think? That they embrace more than just your own corner of existence.
2--Seeds fly up and into the wind. Perhaps the balloons represent seeds of things you want to see come to fruition, whether or not you yourself actually nurture them or not.
That's what I got :)

Red Emma: The initial reaction to a card always has merit since it represents a reaction from the core, but I am not so sure your dreams & hopes are baseless.
As an aspect of 8-Strength, 8 Pentacles can be about dreams coming true.
Strength pertains to manifesting of a higher understanding or goal. As above, so below. Regeneration, reincarnation, evolution, inner strength & passion, balance.
8-Pentacles oft refers to one's physical/material efforts or applied pursuits. Include study, perseverance, diligence, practical application.
Your description evokes sending out dreams, wishes & hopes to Goddess or Universe. Full moon being representative of Goddess & the subconscious realm from whence the inspiration, the prompting begins. When one prays to God/dess, one not only makes an investment in channelling energy towards a goal, but also makes an offering. 'Tis believed that the Old Ones which include the Tuatha De Danaan, the Sidhe & other beings canna exist without our thoughts of them &/or our belief in them, as such contribute to their being. So it can be with our dreams. Since wishing does not necessarily make a thing concrete, 8-Pentacles may speak of the means to an end as well as an encouragement to keep on keeping on.

HI Red Emma,
Have you been thinking about learning some new skills? Learning to paint? Or are you writing a novel?
If the 8 of p fell in the advice position I might see it as advice to roll up your sleeves, and get to work honing or developing your craft, or learning a something new.
If it fell in the outcome postion, I might take it to predict a success, the fruition of a project.
:)
But did the card fall reversed? If reversed, I might see it as a warning that if you didn't put nose to the grindstone, then your wishes and hopes might not come to fruition, (along the lines of your first reading intuition).
