in what ways do you guys use your cards for creative expression/creativity and/or inspiration?

Ambrosia  10 Jul 2003
how do you use your cards to aid in developing intuition and psychic development?

Every time I do a reading I am aiding my intuition develop!

I read a lot for other people, so I think that helps as I have a lot of opportunity for immediate feedback. When I lay out the spread I always interpret it primarily with the traditional meanings of the cards in mind. And by "traditional" I don't even necessarily mean "commonly accepted", but more like what the particular card has come to mean to me over the years, incorporating changes as my understanding changes and grows.

But sometimes something will strike me in a spread. For instance, there is one spread I like to do that is laid out like a diamond, and the order in which the cards are read is very specific. But if I loosen up and allow my eyes to just float freeform over the spread as an entity, I'll pick up on images that speak to me of something additional. I never had an instance of these "messages" being contrary to what I first read. They just fill in the gaps.

One time, I was struck by all the symbols of duality, balance, and two's in a spread. Now this can mean a lot of things, but I had a hunch and asked "Are there twins in your family?" It turns out that the woman who'd come with the querent was her fraternal twin!

I think when you get a gut feeling about something, or a hunch, or an idea that seems to pop into your head out of nowhere, ask! If you're wrong, you're wrong. But sometimes you're right and the more you go with your intuition the sooner you'll come to recognize what feels right and what doesn't.

Alternatively, you can write these things down in a journal if the spread is done for yourself, so you can refer back to it. You'll be amazed when you see that the Page of Wands in that spread really did indicate a phone call from your sister!

Let's see, I'm sure I posted this before, but I don't know where. It's called The Council and I came across it in Raymond Buckland's Romani Tarot book. It's laid out like this:

*******7

**10*** 3*** 9

6** 2** S** 1** 5

**12*** 4*** 11

********8

The positions of each card do not have any particular meaning attributed to them, rather, the order in which the cards are read create a story, or coherent message. The order is as follows:

7-10-3-9
6-10-2-12
9-1-11-5
12-4-11-8

I've come to view the significator as contributing to either the overall tone of the situation, or the "central question."

Well, you may want to read all five sections of “The Process” and then head over and read about toothpicks.

That should get you started. Pay particular attention to the chapters on “The Blank Spot” and “Flashes.”

Sometimes I will lay out certain cards for inspirational purposes, or for inspiration of creativity. Other times, I'll think of certain cards while I go about my day. The deck that I do this with is the FAerie Oracle Deck by Brian Froud.

I'll scan a card from the day's self-reading that made an impression on me, and display it on my computer as my desktop background, so that I can meditate on it and be further inspired.
