what are your own personal ways of using tarot cards in these areas, as opposed to copying a spell or meditation from a book? I feel using books for ideas and inspiration is fine but copying a meditation or spell of someone else is surely using that persons intent and not your own.

i know what you mean , but noone will ever do exactly the same spell ( at the very least it will be different time / place/ rythem of speach)
but i always try and personalize my spells , it just wouldnt make sense not to
and i also chose a tarot deck specifically to do the spellwork wth. On the other hand i often use everyday objects within the spell and altar. For instance i will use a plate or cup we eat off, because it goes back to personalizing the spell. It is full of my energy if it is an everyday object.
using tarot for spellwork is relatively new to me and there is another thread http://www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2988
that has been going over the subject ( and helping me out alot! )
and , hi ! nice to meet you

I see spells as a form of prayer. I don't think it really matters how you do it, as long as you have faith. I'd suggest not doing multiple spells in which you ask for the same result, because when you do so, you demonstrate a lack of faith in the original spell.
While I'm not into elementals, I do use objects to help me focus and make the setting more reverent.
I do spells by pulling out a card or two which represent the attributes I seek. I'll light off some incense, or maybe a candle, and will focus on what I'm trying to accomplish.
Every time I light incense or a candle form then on, I meditate on my result. In time, the spell will fade. This is a natural result. Hopefully, by the time it fades, the object of the spell will become habit, and will remain of its own accord.
I believe in Karmic return, but not the threefold law. So I'm a bit less reserved in asking for what I want. I don't see spells as some sort of morality lesson.
So, if you're willing to live with the consequences of your spell, cast them to your heart's content.

it is interesting that all of this is coming up . Anyway , i plan on doing the spell i did for safe travel again, the journey didnt take place when we thought it would, and i remade my altar in between .... but my intent is a refresher spell, sort of like putting more gas in the engine when you know you are going far. I'm not saying anybody is right or wrong just posting :-). In fact I am going to copy the original, it just feel right y'kow. like doing it again will make it better, so that is why i will do it .

I did a google search this week on 'tarot, meditation and spells' because:
1) I like tarot pictures to help focus my visualization
2) I associate positive things with my tarots and meditative focus, similar to making a picture or writing a journal entry or poem
3) I think the power of symbols for ourselves can be uplifting and energizing or soothing, if done with good intents and focus.
Anyway, the Enchanted Tarot--as lacy, fabric-feminine and like the nice auntie that sews or the grandmother who crochets--was described. It actually said 'the dream or enchantment' reads halfway inbetween a meditation and spell. For instance, it might suggest "Drink energizing mint tea for refreshment and a reminder to relax and clear that foggy feeling" or it might encourage you to do a meditative few minutes and writing suggestion.
Anyway, making such a nice 'recipe' book seems to be a good thng to do for oneself in the summer and fall. Hope this suggestion helps!
