Tarot To Communicate With Spirits

Okay, we know we can use Tarot for divination and meditation. But, can we use tarot to communicate with the spirits of those who have died?

I think it can be used this way.

Does anyone have any input on this?

Thanks jog, I checked out the thred, and it lead to another thread.

Apparently, I'm not alone with the concept of using Tarot to communicate with spirits.

In as much as Tarot cards are not manipulated, as in Ouija, I think it is a safer medium of communication.

Further, Tarot doesn't communicate messages per se, but feelings and emotions and non-assertive conduct. As such, I may, in the future, explore this idea.

Never thought of using Tarot this way, yet there is a sense in which the Tarot is always being used this way. Who, or what exactly are we contacting when we speak with the tarot? Sometimes it does seem as though spirits speak though the tarot. I suppose our ability to hear voices through the tarot can only be as good as our ability to channel those same voices, with or without the cards.

I've tried it once. I know that my grandfather's spirit is often with me and at one point I felt his presence very strongly. So strong, it made me wonder whether he was trying to tell me something. It was even a bit scary, even though I know he would never hurt me.

So I used the cards to ask why he was there. I'm not sure whether I was directly communicating with his spirit through the cards, but the cards basically told me he was there to assist me, and that was good enough for me... ;)

I would never try to contact just any spirit using the cards though, I only did it at that time because I was sure who it was.

Thanks jog, I checked out the thred, and it lead to another thread.

my thread?

This was an awsome experience.....I did it a second time (within a year of the first) with more subtle (but approp.) results. With the recient events surrounding this man....and your timing in posting this thread......It must be time to do it again to see what he has to say now......

Well, I'm probably (re)known(ed) for getting slightly irritated by the references to external entities ;) BUT, I have no objections to some of the concepts discussed by Lon Milo DuQuette in e.g. his "Chicken Qabalah" book. He says things like:

Q: Are the spirits part of me or do they live an existence independent of me?

A: The spirits are inside you, but most of us do not realise (1) how big our insides really are, or (2) how much out of control and seemingly independent the things inside us can be.

ISTR he paraphrases much of this by saying: "It's all in YOUR head, but you may not realise just how BIG your head is. Heck, I have few problems with that! Plus I get to choose whether I "liberate" them... or NOT - as is more likely in my case :) But then (fwiw) I do distinguish tarot and other divination methods from mediumship...

I sometimes wonder about the "ethics" of some of these processes too... about a certain level of (almost) arrogance. Like many, I have felt strong "presences" under certain circumstances - e.g. recent berevement. But I do wonder... Maybe external "spirits" might not WANT to be contacted? })

Hello

I don´t need to use the tarot to contact spirits, if fact somme persons don´t need (see the movie six sense).

But if you use the tarot be carefull because there are agressive
spirits.

I have recently ordered The Path by Whitley Strieber :

And was very surprised to read in the description that he used the Tarot of Marseilles to communicate with aliens !!!

I don't worry too much about the ethics of contacting spirits via tarot- especially if they are bothering somebody already on the earth plane. In other circumstances, you might be accessing an astral historic record of events. Or, I suppose if a spirit didn't want to be contacted, they could refuse to answer . Kind of like not picking up the phone.

I have never deliberately sought any spirits whilst using my cards. But I have often felt their energies around me when I am reading for someone. When this happens, I use the cards, and I also try to tune into their energies in order to establish a connection with them.

It is very interesting. I wonder if anyone would have any tarot spreads for spirit communication?

Elle  26 Jul 2003
My father, who passed on years ago, showed up in my spread just a few days ago. I figured it was him because he was the King of Swords (Gemini), 3 of swords (my heart has never healed), and the 6 of Cups (nostalgia for the past or my childhood). He came thru loud and clear. I think he was just trying to let me know he is around.

Sometimes I think spirits make all of these annoying pop-ups appear when I am trying to type!

To all of our loving spirits,

That's a nice story :)

Thanks for sharing that. It's nice to know that sometimes our departed pop back in to say hi!!!! ;)

In many sects of Hispanic Espiritismo, Santeria, and in some sects of Haitian Voodoo, tarot cards or plane card decks are ceremonially consecrated, symbolically birthed, baptized and named. I have used a certain deck for 7 years, that has gone through these ceremonies. Anyway, she “the spirit that speaks through the deck” has always been a very familiar and positive spirit to deal with, and has always given me good insight and clarity in readings. The deck is worn and old, and I will have to replace it soon, but as soon as I find a suitable deck, I will invite the spirit to partake of the deck, and perform these ceremonies. Anyway it works for many Espiritistas and Santeros, and has been done this way for many years.

I have no idea if there are already created spreads for this reason.

But as for your first paragraph of feeling their energies around you when reading for someone, it made me recall something. I recalled John Edwards, having remembered reading in his book and also hearding him tell of the following of himself. When he was a teenager, he did Tarot readings for psychic fairs and venues. With him being so young, he often had people not wanting to believe him as just was just a kid, a teenager. So when he would try to tell a person what the cards were saying and they felt what he wasn't knowing anything about nothing, to stress to them that he knew what he was seeing and that his age wasn't a factor, he was able gained their attention and belief when he would then tell of whom was standing behind them of. He was able to pick up on their deceased loved ones. With him able to tell them of these spirits, it gave him validity to his abilities. This is how that he came to be in the career he has today.
