Who is he??????????

In most traditional books, they say that when you're doing a reading for a male the High Priestess or the Queen of Wands, either one of them, represents a woman with whom the querent is involved, his wife, gf, romantic interest, whatever...

It doesn't do it because they have characteristics in common with the woman in the Querents life, it's just a matter of symbolism I guess

Weird though, I haven't found what card represent would a female's current male companion in the same way (that is, regardless of his own personal characteristics)

And thinking about it, I can't really come up with it myself...

What card symbolises for you a male love interest, husband, bf, etc... whichever... ???????????

Thank you guys ;)

Knight of Cups? for me, always the King or Knight of Cups.
Or, alternatively, the King or Knight of Wands.

I use atrological signs paired with Kings:

King of Wands: Aries, Sagittarius, Leo

King of Pentacles: Virgo, Capricorn, Taurus

King of Swords: Gemini, Aquarius, Libra

King of Cups: Cancer, Scorpio,Pisces

Some say eye and hair coloring match best to the Kings.

Knights are youger men; Pages can be children, esp. if next to 6 of Cups.

I use Queens for women as well.

I'd take this with a grain of salt--rather like those books which tell you that the Queen of Swords is a divorsed woman or the Queen of Pentacles a dark-haired lady. Those traditional books can be a bit dated--trapped in the time in which they were written.

That said, if I were to reverse this, pick cards that represent romantic interest for a female no matter what, I'd agree with Firemaiden--King of Cups.

In fact, the female opposite to HPS and Queen/Wands would likely be Magician and King Cups. Why? The High Priestess represents pure female, the Moon, etc. The Yang to her Yin, pure male, is the Magician, so he would be the parallel there.

Queen/Wands, in the meantime, is the female ruler of the most masculine symbol, Wands (this presumes Swords as "Air" and so lacking the hot, passionate element needed to sexually symbolize the masculine). Her parallel would be King/Cups, the male ruler of the most emotional and feminine symbol, Cups (I don't have to detail for you why watery Cups are more, sexually speaking, a feminine symbol than pentacles, do I?).

You might say that the romantic interest for a man is the woman who is Queen of, well, his wand. Meanwhile, the romantic interest for a woman is the man who is King of her, um, chalice.

*falls over laughing*

Your post has made my day :D

And no, you don't have to explain although it might be quite amusing.

I need to ask this question: Does anyone know how one should read gay/lesbian representations/Kings/Queens - my genders are all messed up in my spreads.
A guideline or a hint will help.

Thanks!

Hm. The problem shouldn't be gay and lesbian so much as gender-benders. I mean, a lesbian would say she's a woman who likes women--so why shouldn't she be represented by a Queen and have her romantic partner (or potential partner) represented by a Queen?

A transexual or just a person who likes to bend toward the other side (a lesbian who prefers looking and acting very "masculine"), on the other hand, should be given the card they most identify with. What do they see themselves as? Do they identify with the King of Swords or Queen? Best way to find out is to ask; lay out the court cards and ask them which they're drawn to; trust their intuition, their first answer, and stick with that. Ditto on what kind of partner would interest them, King or Queen?

Just to make things a bit more sticky, remember also that the cards themselves tend to gender-bend--not often with Kings and Queens, but frequently with Knights and Pages (problem solved if you have a deck with Princes and Princesses instead). A Knight can represent a youthful male or female depending on the spread or situation. And a Page represents a child of either sex. So if you've been getting a lot of Knights, your cards might not be as gender confused as you think.

And the majors are ALWAYS gender-bending. Rule of thumb regarding the majors is to go with the genders when you can: the Empress is usually female; if your querent is being taught by a crusty old male professor, he'll probably be represented by the Hermit, while a crusty old female professor will likely be represented by the High Priestess...you get the idea. On the other hand, always trust your intuition. If you're looking for your querent in the spread and there's the Emperor--and she's very Emperor like, then she's the Emperor. Never mind the descrepency in gender.

Thanks very much. Your clarifying that point is very helpful, esp. for spreads where there are a lot of courts showing up together.
