Nine of Pentacles.
I dont get it. I've tried to find meanings for this card, but they never seem to fit completely. I've read is a card about self-acceptance or similar things, and i cant see that in the RW pic.
Only I see is a woman in a garden surrounded by pentacles and herbs, with an expensive dress (ok, its an ugly dress but looks expensive) and looking sadly to whoever knows where, like if she is going to faint. So, is she the "poor little rich girl"? The one who has everything but feels alone and unable to appreciate it?
What are your menaing for this one? I need more understanding on it.

The nine of pentacles is a woman living off her investments.
It points to spending wisely and to securing a financial future that is good.
Pentacles point to the element earth, our physical-ness
So the card points to you needing to do things that are good. Like getting a massage, pampering yourself, or simply buying an outfit to feel better.
This card is not a loner card, needs to always be read with other cards, rule of thumb. at least a three card reading

I've always understood it to be a card of self-discipline: she chooses when the hooded falcon flies and it returns on command. This self-discipline enables her to enjoy the finer things in life.
I believe I have read somewhere something along the lines that the fact she has her face turned away from us (ie hidden) could indicate that there has been some personal loss involved along the line. Also that the snail in the foreground indicates that she accepts everything in the garden - life in all its aspects.
Hope this helps!

this is what I think when I see the 9 of Pentacles

It is clear to me that this lady is wealthy and somewhat unsatisfied with her wealth.
Maybe the 9 of pentacles talks about the impossibility of complete fulfillment of the human desire, the need to relocate the object to something new over and over. Re-cycle.
Peace,
Aun

“…Mr. Crowley,
It’s symbolic of course…”
- Ozzy –
That’s the way I always saw the woman’s wealth in the 9 of Pentacles…as a metaphor.
Further, dissatisfaction is not at all illustrated or implied. Remember…she holds a bird of prey with ease…it’s symbolic, and – no – it’s not the bird of prey, but the relationship between the handler and the bird that is necessary for not only the hawks survival (the will to hunt), but the survival of the relationship (trust and love enough to return whilst un-tethered). This relationship is also illustrated mathematically by the snail on the ground (shown in many decks).
This card is NOT about money. But it IS about the relationship we have with the process of attaining material goods, money, and wealth.
It's a Meta-4

Inana,
I have never interpreted 9-Coins lady as either sad or a girl! It is interesting how ppl can get such a different interpretation from the cards. I see a self-possessed woman on this card. I like this card when it comes up, represents enjoying worldly comforts and having self-confidence. It is a card of reward and prosperity.
on edit: I just saw your post, Umbrae, what is Meta-4?

Terrific post, Umbre. Very apt. Yes, it's all about what you do with your money, about controlling it, using it wisely. In this case, how you make yourself happy and comfortable.
Several definitions indicate a small legacy, inheritance, or money wisely invested paying off. HOWEVER--and this is the important part--it isn't a lot of money. It's enough to have all the nice things you've ever wanted--but not enough to go wild with extravagances.
NOTE ALSO that this is a card about the home. It's not about having the money to take a trip to China or start a business. It's about having the money to make your nest comfortable (that's one of the messages from the bird on her arm--nesting--at rest, not in flight).
Thus, we see our lady with the emblems of wealth. The falcon (in some decks, it's a cockatoo--either way, a bird of the rich, of leisure), the nice dress, the lovely garden which, the gate indicates, is her private park--not public. All the comforts of home. She isn't sad so much as content and thoughtful. Consider someone who's had to struggle all their lives to make ends meet--and now, for once, they've nothing to worry about. In fact, they can spoil themselves. She's caught in a kind of dazed wonder.
This is a card about finally having the money to retire--or leave that job you hate--and work at home. On the small scale of a daily card, it's about being able to buy something for yourself--not a diamond necklace or a jet plane, but something you've really wanted to make you happy and comfortable, like a new armchair, new clothes or DVD player.
When you get this card in a spread, you can tell the querent that they have the means (or will have the means) to buy what they want--so long as they are prudent in their spending. So whether they've been wanting and waiting to buy a new computer, new wardrobe, a modest house or just redecorate, you can assure them, they either do or will have the means.

Yeah Thirteen…That says it all.
Prudent…practical, attention to details, planning…
Yup…the relationship between a person and their process of ‘getting’. The non-servile attitude.

Very interesting posts. Cool thread. I especially loved seeing Lunalafey's card, thought it was beautiful, Luna I loved that you did it as a manifestation exercise. (It worked?)

An opinion from a beginner - but I get the feeling from the 9 of Pentacles (which shows a man on my favourite deck) that it represents a time of greater self esteem, reecognising that you're 'allowed' a reward for all your hard work. Resting on your laurels if you like and a sense of satisfaction that comes not from other people but from your own self esteem. But not in an smug way, just a feeling of contentment.

I view the of Pentacles as independence and self-condfidence based on finances. As if money is not one of the concerns.
Warmest,

Thanks all for all those nice answers. Im trying to assimilate them now...
So, its basically related to getting resources and administrating them. Planning the way we get the money and the prosperity in our lives. Enjoying the comfort we have gained... Will think more about all that you've said.
When i was saying "little girl" was a way to speak, is just an expresion. I see a lady in the card, but still seems a little sad or melancholic, not only thoughtful. So it makes sense what Aun wrote. When we have what we wanted, we are thinking about getting more. Maybe she is thinking to where will send his falcon to hunt next time. But... nobody else feels some loneliness in that pic?

So, its basically related to getting resources and administrating them.
More precisely, it's about having gotten the resources and deciding how to spend them. By 9 pentacles, the nest egg has already been built up or the lawyers are about to call you and tell you you're coming into money--so you don't have to worry about "getting" the money. It's already "got."
You also don't have to worry about administrating the resources; this isn't a card about looking to the future, about putting money away for a rainy day. You've already done that. So now you've got more than enough. What are you going to spend it on?
That's what the card's about. USING the resources. Which makes it a unique card in it's way. There's many a card to warn you not to spend the money--this one reminds you that you can't take it with you. If you've got it, you might as well enjoy it.
Interestingly, 10/Pentacles takes this to the next level by urging that you give away money to family, on the next generation, to charities and foundations. 9's, let's remember, are about physical completition. 10's are spiritual. So 9 urges you to get earthly comfort and joy from the money while 10 shows you how to get spiritual, after-life joy and satifaction from the money.

Poor little rich girl...I kinda like that description.
(Another one to add to my collection of meanings)
The other day, while I was reading for someone using the RWS, she came up looking a little forlorn, and the story she told that day was about a woman with a great home and family, and abundance and wealth...and yet she was not satisfied with her life...she wanted something more, something deeper that was on a spiritual level rather than a material level.
I saw a woman starting a new spiritual path, or at least reconnecting in a new way with an old spiritual ideal.
It was as if the garden and all were just cardboard cutouts...that it was all merely an illusion. And things moved slowly, of course...a snails pace ya might say...but she was on to something bigger...the hooded falcon giving her an idea that she was accepting the wealth around her as a sort of bondage to her spirit.
O.K...I had no idea(at the time) that the person I was reading for just got into Zen...and had just given away a ton of her possessions...but apparently this card had given me a new insight.
Just thought I'd share...: )

I have alot of ground to cover still before I enter the 9 o'P
I'm still at 8 o'P. Land is loads of money, & I keep tripping into these ruts that pick my pockets....It's an uphill struggle, I knew it would be, nothing ever comes easy for me when speaking of possessions. The card came at a time when I felt like giving up.
Looking at the card was my dream & I could hold it in my hand. I could see it, not just imagine it...so I guess you could say no it has not worked, but it is working....
I have not given up, and I'm doing all I can to button my pockets before I fall down.

Using the resources...
Thanks for the clarification, Thirteen. That makes sense. Will think about it.
Chronata, its curious the interpretation you did for that woman, seems to be more connected with my first impression on it, because about the "having" not being enough.
Thanks all for sharing. Im going to check that link. Sometimes i forget to look at the list of past threads on the cards...
