Hi
I need some help. Can someone tell me what type of person the emperor would be in a spread. I received the emperor in 2 different reads I did on myself and was just wondering what type of person that would be. I'm still pretty new at this so any help would be great.
Thanks
Cheryl

It's almost impossible to give you a comprehensive answer without knowing the spread, the positions, the question etc., but in broad strokes, when I think of the Emperor I think of the word 'structure'. The Emperor is a builder, a manifester, someone who is dominated by left brain activity. He could be a controlling boss or father. He's about security and stability, a conquerer of nature. His power comes from the outside. He may be disconnected from his feminine side.
I could go on but I suggest you check out Thirteen's Tarot Basics at Aeclectic Tarot (just click the title above) or invest in a good book or two, such as Rachel Pollack's 78 Degrees of Wisdom. Hope this helps.

just as Lawguy said,
The emperor usually represents a figure, usually male, that is of authority to you, like a father, boss, teacher. The emperor also stands for anyone you look for in need of advice.
Depending on what's around it it can also represent someone related with justice.
If it's not a person it can stand for tradition (not so much as the hierophant though), family structure, or the need to control a situation
It can be a reminder to keep a good head on your shoulders as well...
of course all of these depend on what it's surrounded by.

I think Lawguy's and Indigo's immediate definitions work great; it's very much to the point, however when I read "father" and "boss" I wanted to jump up and yell "James Brown!"
hehe . . .
