Hi all
I have done major only readings when i first started learning tarot, I was just curious as to weather any one does minor only readings and when they would do so?

Hi bonnycat
I've heard of partial deck readings, never tried them myself. Majors only readings are common, never heard of Minors only. Would like to hear what others have to say.

There's a very interesting way of reading with only minors described in the book for the Nigel Jackson tarot.
I've tried it a few times, with varying results.
I wrote a rather longish description of the spread here a few months ago... I'll try to dig up that thread!
Edited to add; Nope, can't find it.
If you're interested and don't have the NJ deck, let me know and I'll see if I can find the booklet and post it again.
I think it came down to counting up or down while flipping over cards. Every time the number matched, you took out the cards.
Those were the ones that you read.
I think.

Hedera,
Is this the post you were looking for?
QUOTE:
Only Minors
There is an interesting method (not sure if you can call it a spread) in the little book that comes with the Nigel Jackson Tarot, that uses only the minors.
Take out the majors. Shuffle Minors. Now, recite the numbers of the cards out loud, while you turn them over. I start with the ace and go up from there, I think the book does it the other way around. Any time the card you turn over is the same number as what you said while you turn it over (so you count 'Two' as you get the two of wands, or pentacles), you put that card on the table.
Go through the whole (minor) deck once.
The cards you have taken out are about the issues that you deal with that day, or that week, or whatever, depending on what you set out to explore. There can be a lot of cards or not very many, which makes it pretty interesting. You could also have no cards show up - I'm not sure what that means, maybe that you are a perfectly balanced, happy, welladjusted and boring person!
Hedera.

I'm going to have to try that now!
Isn't minors-only reading at least similar to reading using playing cards? I sometimes do this, but I don't use any special spreads when I do. Is this a suitable approach?

I have seen a method that involves 3 spreads. First was a Celtic Cross using only minors, followed by a seven card star spread using only Majors. Then after putting the whole deck back together, a horseshoe spread was used to "bring it on home."

thank you all
That gives me something to work on. Just one query with the three spreads would you use the same deck for the whole reading or different one for each?

The first spread, the CC, was done with just minors to get details of the current situation in everyday terms. The second spread, the seven card star, was done with just the majors to get a feel for the querent and where they are currently in life. Then the deck was shuffled back together and the horseshoe spread done using all 78 cards is pulled to sum up and clarify the whole of this reading. This is all done with the same deck. I can give more details on specific spread layouts and such if you would like.....it came from a book written by Juliet Sharman-Burke, co-author of The Mystic Tarot.

for daily spreads, limited to three card spreads. I started with the Prediction tarot, with their boring pips and actually interesting 39 page booklet--it gave me insight with brief descriptions. For additional reference, I then referred to keywords using an Italian book by Isa Donelli and a historical Milanese deck, the di Gumppenberg 1830-40.
I'm thinking of using the Visconti Gold or the Fey art decks usually with decorative details on the pips and a good descriptive book. I've also experimented with the Lo Scarabeo Egyptian and the AGM Mueller Ibis...kind of fun to learn.
I think Tarot and Tree of Life gives a suggestion of minors only for daily draws, not certain.
But I think this is a fun way to learn a foreign-language deck and plan to try it with my less-used Laura Tuan Egianziani deck.
