Well... if life consisted of isolated events, where you could draw distinct lines between different aspects of life, then I would probably more easily "buy" this concept.
But the thing is - life isn't really like that, the thing with life is that all it's aspects interlace and it's not really possible to separate one aspect and only study that aspect. And even if you could, would it be very helpful, if you don't see how it affects other areas, and how other areas affect the one you're watching?
If you want to buy shares, that is a money issue, but since you want to look into the question, I'd say there is more to it than that. And if you rule out all other elements than just earth - you might miss something that you're not aware of.
To me, the tarot is an entity of 78 cards, the 78 cards make up a tool that can be used to better understand life as we go through it. The trick is that since the Tarot-keys are so diverse and heterogenous they will more accurately mirror the world, than if you take out a more homogenous part of it, and use only that part to understand the world.
But this is, of course, just my little opinion. The best way to find out would of course be to try it and see how well it works out.
Good luck!
Jenny :)

Single suit reading is precisely what R. T. Kaser does in Tarot in Ten Minutes
He calls it 'stacking the deck'.
Works for me. :)
edited to add: His actual method is to use the single suit and keys I - X from the majors for a total of 20 cards.

Ah, then it makes sense why I don't really "buy" the concept - I never was much for "quickies"... ;)
I can't even do a 3-card reading in 10 minutes, and I wouldn't see the point in doing one either. So then I guess it's a matter of where I take my view-point - and where others take theirs. As with most other tarot-related questions...!

We're in agreement here Jenny. :)
Let me put it this way: if you believe it works it will.
You could certainly take more than 10 minutes to read the resulting spread. What the saying? "Don't judge a book by it's cover."

True. It's just me having a strong dislike for titles that somewhere imply "quick 'n dirty"-solutions. But that's just me.
I'm kinda used to taking my time, and doing things any ways I bloody well please, so I don't worry much about it! :D
But I take it you recommend the book?
Jenny *always curious* :D

i think using one suit to answer a question would be a good practice kind of thing.
recently (if i am not mistaken) there was a question about love and loads of coins turned up in the reading, or was it vice versa, loads of cups turned up in a reading about money/work ?
doing this can make you think outside the box of cups are about feelings/love, coins are about money, swords are conflicts end so on. it makes you think about the concept/theme of a card rather than a meaning.
i would personally not do a single suit reading when its not a practice situation.

Greetings Ashgate,
I have been experimenting with this myself and found it very interesting, so much so that I have been thinking of offering readings using this approach.
You look a the cards through elements (fire, water, earth, air), functions (thinking. Feeling, intuition and sensation), numerology and roles of the Courts). Also Qabalistic associations - the numbers are placed at different parts of the Tree of Life).
I’ve been using the same simple spreads that are effective for many readings but have been experimenting with a few new ones.
Perhaps you would be interested in participating in a reading experiment? :)

Interesting......
Did you find that certain spreads work better with this, Moongold?
I am interested in further info about this type of reading......

Hi Skytwig,
I forgot this thread was here.
I tried the single suit readings with Courts and found them very worthwhile. These are the two I did and the feedback is at the end of catti’s reading.
http://www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=19434 Catti
http://www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=19434 Jewel-ry
I put a lot of thought into the spreads and chose two different ones in response to very different questions. Jewel-ry’s question was quite concrete and I know an immense amount about sleep and sleep disorders so I went for a simple, uncomplicated spread that would still yield some new material if it was there.
Catti’s question was more like a narrative that had not yet unwound so I chose the Play with surprises spread.
I chose the suit according to fairly obvious criteria and used numerological association during the reading. The Lifetime cards thing I left to the end to sort of validate the reading. I used my intuition quite a bit in both readings but particularly so in Catti’s because hers was looking to the future and I had to say what the cards said with nothing other than intuition to back me up.
Spreads are always important and I’m beginning to think that the smaller they are the better! You can get such a lot from 3 cards and 5 yield positive riches.
