I was looking at the court cards in the wands the other day (RWS) and I realized the 3 out of the four cards have pyramids on them - I guess they could be sand dunes or something - but there are always three - like the famous pyramids in eqypt.
What is that all about?
I never really think of the wands as "foriegn"
But also,
then this got me thinking about really analyzing all the details in cards. I haven't ever done it much, but after reading some posts on here - I did it more. I guess before I have always just kept a log of what the interpretations were in a reading as a basis of future readings and didn't super analyze the pictures.
What do you think about that???
Oh oh - is it bad to put two questions in the same post?
Cheers

I'm going to guess that the pyramids are Masonic emblems--but leave it to JMD and others to affirm or deny this.

Who knows, they could be Masonic symbols, but it's anyone's guess, as Waite sure doesn't tell us anything in his book _PKT_, lest he betray his OGD secrets.
It sure could make sense that the court cards of a single suit could have the same background, as artist Smith was a set designer as well as artist.
Superficially, at least, the pyramids could have some linkage to traditional pre-GD (e.g., Etteilla) divinatory meanings. As noted in _PKT_, DMs for Knight of Wands include departure, flight, emigration, change of residence. Waite notes that the Knight is as if on a journey. How more exotic a locale than Egypt, which was still "en vogue" in the minds of people at the time the deck was created? Waite confirms that the objects as "mounds or pyramids".
For the Page of Wands, Waite expressly acknowledges that the scene is similar to that in the Knight card. The traditional meanings for the Page of Wands include envoy, announcements.

Could the pyramids be showing the element of the card?
The pyramids and colouring of court wands signifies heat to me. (fire)
If you look at Cups/courts there is water in the scene.
Swords depict airy scenes, whilst Discs show earth/land scenes.
Just a thought.
Gloria.

This seems to make the most sense to me. But there could be more behind it, who knows.
