Hi everyone,
I have not been feeling too good the last few days (wretched cold, cough etc.). I have done a few spreads but they dont seem to make any sense to me. Do you think that your health affects the reading? Is it possible that feeling below par can affect my thought processes, making my readings confused??

Hey, it's possible to be in good health and find yourself unable to read the cards. We all have bad days, bad weeks even. Sometimes, your brain needs a rest and so do the cards.
So get some rest and drink plenty of fluids. Feel better.

Jewel-ry: That is entirely possible & especially if one's focus is affected; would seem to affect the perception.
Personally, it varies. Sometimes it does not seem to matter; other times it does. Years ago had an interesting experience when I had 'flu & pneumonia; was confined to bed. Had not the energy to do anything & no concentration to read a book. So I took my cards to bed with me. After I shuffled the deck upright as is usual, the attempt to do a reading produced all reversed cards. Based on the cards (which I do not remember) & their reversals, it was like a shouted "No, not at this time; go away" type of message. I felt like crawling into a hole :D

When I am ill, even with a simple cold, everything is affected. It would make sense to me that if you don't fell well, no matter what it is, even just being plain tired will affect you.

Many things could affect your intuition and ability to read. A tough time in your life, a busy schedule, and yes....perhaps being sick. Get well soon!

I guess it's the same way being ill affects your ability to go on with your every day life.
For example, for soem people when they are ill it is very difficult to concentrate or they just lack strength
I guess it depends on you and what you have at the moment but it can certainly happen

Thanks everyone, I initially had a real confidence knock. I'm OK now you've convinced me its only temporary. I'll go back to bed and take some more cough medicine then............

Once when I was sick, I did a three card spread with the Celtic Wisdom deck. In the back of my mind, though it was not a question I posed to the cards, I was wondering whether to call in sick to work or to save my precious few sick days for when I might feel even worse. I couldn't make head nor tail of the cards until I noticed that all three cards had a figure on them who was laying down! I called in sick.

I find that I have the same problems when I'm feeling really down; I think any sort of ill health, whether physical or emotional can affect your relationship with the cards. I hope you feel better soon!

Haven't been ill since I started reading cards
Therefore I conclude reading cards is good for one's health.

I find that when I feel unwell that I can't focus properly on the cards. I find that I am focusing more on my headache, my stuffed up nose etc then the cards. Before I read I like to centre and ground myself and when I am unwell I can't do this properly so I don't read.

Alex..... how have you managed that? Wow!!
Yes, jewel ry, sickness can affect us psychically, intuitively, spiritually..... it's all connected........
If the cards seem grumpy, let them rest.... :D

Last night I was feeling under the weather - again, I've been feeling icky off & on for a month. So I did a health reading, and everything looked so rosy! I was a bit befuddled, but chalked it up to getting better, stop dwelling on it.
The next morning - this morning - I woke up horribly sick. I have the flu (I think) and haven't been able to get out of bed all day. The reading was totally wrong! Was it because I was sick??? Hmmm....

Hi DeLani,
After whats happened to me the last week I would say YES definately. I had some really weird readings that I could make nothing of at all and then I posted this thread. Thirteens advice was to give myself and the cards a rest and thats pretty much what I did. I'm still off work and have been dipping into Aeclectic but I only did one reading and today I'm feeling a little better. I may do a reading later today but - my advice - dont rush back.
Hope you feel better soon.

Speaking of reading when your ill.... (don't know if I should make a separate thread for this or not, but I'll just stick it in here...)
Beside the "does it mess up your readings" question... Has anybody ever used tarot to diagnose SELF (and I stress that, cause there's that whole ethics thing, medical diagnosis, etc., etc. that comes into play -- especially when you read for others) illness or malaise??
I would think it is possible, as tarot picks up on the energies -- and when you are feeling under-the-weather, something is definitely off-balance, energywise. Plus, it picks up on the "emotional" distress... so why not the physical?
I never see much written about this -- or even really discussed.
So -- my question(s) is(are):
Can anybody recommend a Health Spread?
(and I'm talking minor aches and pains here, I'm not looking to replace a doctor's medical opinion)
Or, does anybody have any relations that they have discovered or encountered for specific cards relating to specific parts of the body? Or specific causes or manifestations of illness?
I would love to hear your thoughts and experiences... as I have suddenly come down with something I'm fighting off (again! how frustrating!) ... it might be some kind of flu. :(

Galadrial,
This is just too bizarre... I love it!

If I may add sth...
I was given a list of few cards that may tell of a certain illness or a state of our body. I can give it to you if you want and you can take a look at it.
Also, something from my observation, 7 cups & Death rx = general weakness probably caused by the low blood pressure. It's one of those days when every single part of your body seems to weigh 154373 kg :o).
Take care,
Agathe
P.S. Oh, and when you're tipsy that's also not good. Don't count on Tarot telling you the truth ;o).

I've been sick recently and I began pulling single cards from a deck I drew myself in answer to questions about which type of medical path I should pursue. I pulled the 10 of wands out 6 out of 10 times!
I realize now (hindsight is 20/20) it was telling me to just slow down and not do anything. But I was freaked out. A lot more than I needed to be and now I regret some of the action I took.
