Asking the right question...so often I sit there, trying to put the best question forward, or helping the querent do so, and I stumble, wondering how to best phrase the sentence. So I thought it might be useful to create a list of possible questions. None of the below questions are terribly original, borrowed from various authors I have read, too numerous to name them all. Please feel free to add your own.
1. What is the most important thing I need to know about....?
2. What do I need to look at in my life right now? (Greer)
3. What will happen if I take this action...don't take this action? What is the appropriate action to take?
4. Which option amongst several is best or....what would be the consequences of various choices?
5. What is the lesson I need to learn?
6. What is the situation trying to teach me?
7. What is going on in my life and where is my life going?
8. What do I need to be thinking about at this time in my life?
9. How should I approach "X" to make it successful?
10. When will I meet the man/woman of my dreams? KIDDING!

11. What is the nature of...?
12. Why...?
"Why" is a helpful question in many circumstances, and can help you drill down to root values or causes. Ask why, and when you have an answer, ask why that is. Keep asking why until you get down to the heart of the matter. It's a Fool's question--and this is how children learn.

If I have someone that doesn't have a question I tell them to ask the cards:
"what do I need to know ?"
or
"what do I need to know today?"

your #3 might be too many questions.....
you'd need a specfic spread for options....
stumbling over how to present a question.....OH- good subject!
I ask Q's like
what is _____all about?- person place thing or event....
~ that's one of the general sort of Q's
what is missing from this______ life?- relationship, job...etc.
what do I need to do to change______?
for myself- if I can't phrase a question- I just think extra one the subject and shuffle a little longer while thinking...
I f time is not a problem and you have a person who is really into interacting with the reading- and they can't really phrase a question, but have an issue; try having them do pre-reading questions....look at the "2 be or not 2 be" thread in reading exchange for examples....

Yes, agreed, I was trying to present three alternatives to one question.

 Kidding aside, this is probably the most often asked question when people first pay for a face-to-face tarot reading.
I tend to say, "Why don't you trying asking what you can do to invite love into your life?"
At this point, her/his eyes light up and they say, "I should have thought of that. Yes!"
Naturally, the reading began as soon as the person sat down and a lot has already happened. ;)

Tom, couldn't agree more. My last face2face reading, that was the question, when am I going to meet THE 'guy'. So I said, why don't we ask the cards to give you an indication of what you need to do in order to be THE 'gal'.
