I was just wondering would this be a card for the winter months? Is snow a sign for this or does it have to do anything with the winter months?
Thanks for any replys?

Ros,
You come up with the best questions! It looks like it should be a winter card but what I've found so far, tho' it deals with timing is it would be in Taurus (April 21-30) It's astrological association is Mercury in Taurus.

Now I understand, numerologically, 5 is associated with Mercury and Taurus is an Earth sign. Depending on where you live there could still be snow on the ground at the end of April!
At Tarot Moon.com in the "Articles" section, the Knight of Pentacles is associated with Capricorn, that definately is in winter (in the Northern Hemisphere anyhow) but the entire suite of Pentacles is associated with winter at this site, too. But this is also dealing with timing of the cards too, seasonal timing I guess.
I'm thinking the snow in this card is just to show when you think things are bad, it can get worse! How much more miserable can you get? Definately needing shelter from the storm and time to get in out of the cold. Snow for purity? "As white as the driven snow?" Maybe it limits visability, so you aren't seeing clearly, or what you are seeing is obscured, that if you don't do something you might get lost in the blizzard or be frozen out or suffer from exposure to the elements?
Keep it up Ros!

For timing I use this as a 5 month card.
As for the snow I always say that there is light coming out of the darkness. All the snowflakes (white) are positive & its making a breakthrough out of the darkness (black) of negitivity in your life.
WalesWoman I like reading your posts. My questions are the results of self learning & this is the first place or group of people I have had a chance to ask these things. Besides that where my mind goes, who knows? I find the more I post the more info seemings to be moving. I find this is speeding up my learning or tying up the loose ends of knowing. Good luck with your studies also.
Thanks, ros

Winter being my favorite season, snow has always been a symbol of winter time for me. I believe that winter is a time of hibernation and relaxation.. it is a time for rest and dreaming, a time when things are in limbo. There are also fewer resources in the winter and so we are forced to rely on what we have gathered and stored, or to rely on the kindness of others. In the snow & cold season people are also usually drawn more to give and share with others what they have in excess. This symbolism seems to tie in nicely with the image on the card.

For me the snow only adds the feeling of misery. Snow is not always something pleasant and winter time for those poor people is the worst of seasons. It's cold, wet, hard to see anything because of the snow, and it's also, I think, windy.
As to the time of the year, I don't feel it has anything to do with winter, but that's me. I agree with WalesWoman that it would be the beginning of Taurus.
Blessings,
Agathe

The two people in the Rider Waite card are passing by a church, a place which by all accounts represents rest and sanctuary.
They seem quite unaware of this so your idea of the snow here, could very well describe their inability to see clearly.

What synchronicity, I was just thinking about cards for snow -- I decided that the Hermit was a card for "winter" since I pulled this card for a friend who was stuck in the snow, and the Hermit is me when I am "hiber-nating" = "winter-ing"

for a more "everyday" interpretation, the snow represents energies that resist a favorable outcome. You won't be able to look for work during a snow storm, you can't get outdoor work done in the cold, and the days run shorter and shorter.
The Thoth association to mercury in taurus is "worry" which seems to be the overtones of this dark scene scene. Mercury coupled with pessimistic taurus creates an oppresive situation for those unable to cope with difficult situations.
also known as the "beggers card" it takes on the name of the "unemployment and poverty" card.

Was looking at an old painting I'd started about 16 years ago and never finished that has snowflakes on it. Every snow flake is six sided, so maybe the snow is about finding the balance of the sixes?

I have found in some notes
5 coins
-turn to inner powers for guidance and avoid the poverty of consciousness
-seek the light within, which is indicated by the lighted window
Could the snow mean to spend time in meditation to help you find other ways to solve your problems.
It fits with the quietness of winter.
So for me I think I will not use the snow for winter but to tell a client to meditate for a more spiritual outlook. The message is finding your inner light to overcome obstacles.Snow as a symbol in this card as meditation. Snow can be calming & I think the #5 puts the spin on the snow turning it cold etc.

This card's message can be for all four seasons. The two figures are so destitute and unfortunate that, even in the middle of a snowstorm, they have nowhere to go. Both literally (in the case of the card illustration) and figuratively, there are "out in the cold".
