I use the Queen of whatever zodiac sign for the ladies in my readings.
I have read here somewhere people use The Empress.
I now read the Moon means your mother.
Any more mother cards?
What about fathers.
The Emperor & ...

I use the Empress also. I also use the Ace of wands if there is possibly a baby on the way.

Well, it depends on the spread. When it's small I don't use the Empress as a mother. All the queens represent women. However, there is this general spread for which I use 44 cards and in this spread it's either the Empress or the High Priestes that represents querent's mother (it depends on his/her choice).
But what you're saying trigured my thinking in this area and I'll have to think about it while reading cards :)
Blessings,
Agathe

Mothers and fathers... The more usual is: Empress- Emperor
Other possibilities:
Moon - Sun
This pair is in a more broad sense of feminine-masculine, but i've seen them meaning this. I know in some other cultures the sun is female and the moon male, but anyway it works for me.
High Priestess - Hierophant
I got this pair once in a spread asking about childhood. It was interesting cause both cards are teachers, but arent together. Divorced parents.
About queens and kings: I've seen here in this forum some people use the queen of swords often as a mother card. Guess any of the queens or kings can work as mother or father.
