Ok, let me first start by saying, i love this place.
Still fairly new at this, but I am enjoying myself.
I have a question in regards to this study.......
Where do I get info on this study? Or how does it work ?
Please dont laugh at me if this is a stupid question.
I would very much like to know about this.

Thank you

The 78 week study was started a number of weeks ago by a number of Aeclectic Tarot members to get them selves prepared for a big tarot convention in 2005. I believe it is in Australia. What they are doing is studying a different card every week until the convention. I don't think there is any requirements to participate. You don't have to be going to the convention to be a part of this.

I am not participating at the moment. There is a different thread for each card they have done so far, so you will have a little catching up to do.

From what I hear the participants are really getting alot out of it.

Hi STARGAZING,

I think we are all approaching this a little differently.

I am focusing on three different decks, the Haindl, Crystal and Hadar Marseille. I spend at least 5 minutes a day focusing or reflecting on the meanings of the cards. I read different books, look at the symbolism and try to meditate on the cards as well (which doesnt always work, I think it depends on how focused I am at the time and how much the card inspires me).

I keep a notebook and jot down anything I think about and then at some stage during the week I post my key thoughts.

I also try to relate the card to something in my life. It has truly been an enlightening experience although it is difficult to fit in sometimes.

We are a few weeks in but you you may be able to tack those weeks on at the end if you cant fit them in. Some of us have a different order, so you dont have to be studying the same card as anyone else. If you did want to catch up with the majority of us so that you were studying the same card, you could easily give yourself say 3/4 days per card and it wouldn't take that long.

Feel free to join us.

J :)

I'm doing the Haindl deck too (and only that one) because I loved the art but didn't "get" the meanings--couldn't read with it. Each card has a Hebrew letter, rune, element stripe, and astrological symbol, so the symbolism is very dense (or I'm dense :))

So I just sit with each week's card for a study period, write about what I see and what comes to mind. I relate the image to what I usually think of with each card and also read Rachel Pollack's handbook commentary. Then I post a summary of what I came up with.

This practice is really helping me see things and appreciate the deck. My goal is to be able to read with it!

Hi Stargazing

We are all pretty much working at our own pace I think, and some of us in different order. So don't feel like you have to catch up, that isn't necessary.
The whole point is to get to know your deck. I am working with Rohrig and Quest, and in comparison I also use Legend, however, I am not posting my Legend notes.
you can find the threads in Using Tarot, but don't feel like you have to stick to the same schedule. A five minute a day study for each card is I think what most of us are trying to stick to.
Here is the link for the Magician this is the card most of us started with.
You can learn a lot in five minutes, enjoy :D

Go for it Stargazing!

It's a really good way to get to know a deck. It makes you take in details that you might otherwise miss. Just 5 minutes per day looking over the card and then post your feelings or whatever about that card. jmd is the shepherd (and we are the sheep!) Basically it means he starts the thread for each card on a Monday (approximately - cuz he's in Australia and the rest of us are all over the place).

I started with three decks and its gone down to one deck at the moment because I am also doing alot of meditation on other decks. But you can drop in when you feel like it/have the time. jmd explains it all here

Hi Stargazing

As mentioned by the others, everyone is doing their study at different times on different cards and decks, in their own different ways. I am doing it mainly on my Sharman-Caselli deck (which is my personal favourite), and then comparing it to the RWS and sometimes other decks that I have.

I start the week off by looking at the cards (from the different decks), then reading as much information as I can about the symbols, history, etc and then add my personal feelings or interpretations on the card itself.

It is an excellent way to really get to know the cards and for the information to sink in, so it flows more when you are doing readings. Also I have found it very beneficial reading the posts of others who are participating to gather further insight or other information that I did not notice or could not find out about a symbol etc.

I am "planning" at this stage to go to the conference in Melbourne, Australia in July 2005, and believe this is a great preparation for that upcoming event - and think that if I can keep the study going each week, that I certainly deserve to spend the money going to the Conference!! A bit of a personal goal :-)

So have a look at some of the threads and just join in on the cards - it is always great to read someone elses interpretations.

If you are new, and don't have the meanings memorized yet, you could just describe the picture. What is in the picture. How do the people feel in the picture. Just describe the scene. You will be surprised at how much you will get to know the cards this way.

Hope to see you there!

Mimi

PS I am way behind myself. Go at your own pace, but if you want to start where others are at I think it is up to the Chariot this week.
