I am very green in this world and feel very much in a loss as to all the different kinds of decks and different interpretaions? Can anyone clue me in or should my lazy arse go buy some books on the matter? I ask mainly because I find Tarot very interesting and do plan on learning more but find it a bit confusing to gather...

Most of the books are written for the Rider Waite style of decks, so if you want to start with that or one of it's clones, you'd find the most reference books & teaching books on it. I'd suggest Tarot for Beginners, and 78 Degrees of Wisdom as two to start off with.

You will get out of tarot exactly what you put into it. If you are looking to do your own readings with accuracy, then you must learn. I reccomend buying a book to get you started, Easy Tarot Guide by Marcia Masino is one of my favorites. You can use the web for gathering lots of info also.
I do not recognize the vessel, but the eyes seem so familiar.

You have to learn in order to be able to see what we see when looking into the cards. A great source of books is you library. Believe it or not they do have books on the subject. Also, visit your local Barnes and Nobles large book store in your area they have cards on display as well as many books. So you can try before you buy.
I have found that the readings are pretty accurate. You also may want to read up on asking questions effectively. That helps a great deal when you are specifiic in your questions.

Rachel Pollack's Complete illustrated guide to Tarot is an excellent generalist book with coloured illustrations of many different tarot decks. some history, an explanation of majors and minors, examples of different spreads and an explanation of numerological, elemental and astrological associations to the Traot.
It is and excellent, affordable guide to Tarot, just right for beginners. I still often use it as a quick reference.

I just got Rachel Pollack's "78 Degrees of Wisdom", do you recommend I also get "Complete illustrated guide to Tarot", or is one enough? Would the compliment each other well?
I noticed on Amazon that she has a new one (or at least a new printing) called "The Big Little Book of Tarot: The Only Book You'll Ever Need". Anyone know anything about that one?
Thanks!

79DW is in-depth and a must have for RWS devotees. Complete, illustrated guide to tarot is more comprehensive - wide reaching. It includes material on other decks and other subjects relevant to tarot.
It is readily available.. Why not have a look at it in your local bookstore? If you have a Borders, they would certainly have it.
