I'm new to ALL of this! before i knew anything about tarot cards i went out and bought the celtic dragons deck on my 17th birthday, then i was told that its better when the cards find you and someone buys the cards for you is that true? dos that make the cards work any of the less?
how do i find the card that i should always end with? is there such thing?
since im just learning and know very little about it can i still do a reading on one of my friends? i have done readings on myself and they have seemed to help me out a lot.
thank you for listening

It really doesnt matter how you got the cards. Tarot cards are cardboard and ink. The true power of tarot is within yourself. Buying yourself a deck you liked is a great way to start discovering your power of tarot. Good Luck on your tarot journey! :)

Hi and welcome :)
I have to agree about the question of a deck being a gift. There's nothing worse than receiving a deck which a kind giver thought would be just what you wanted only to find that it doesn't resonate with you at all.
At least if you buy your own deck, you can do some reading and research beforehand to find ones that appeal to you and then go for your favourite. You're much more likely to use it if you find it appealing :)
Keep exploring (especially here!) and you'll find heaps of useful information.

If I was to wait for someone else to buy me a deck - I'd still be waiting...! I'm the only one in my circle of aquaintances who is interested - or at least I was the first one. (I HAVE given a few decks to others, though!)
The tarot world is full of musts and must-nots. My main advice to you would have to be to ignore them all by default - and then go with what feels right for you. Perhaps you will find that you want to wrap your deck in purple silk, only deal with your left hand and never read for yourself and follow all the other "rules" that circulate about the tarot - but more likely is that if you're open to it, you will learn to love the tarot in your very own way. And THAT way is the one valid way for you.
Trust yourself! And have fun - enjoy your deck, and don't worry about having bought it yourself. I've bought almost all my decks myself, and it works just fine! :-D
