I just noticed that the Priest in the Death card who appears to be begging Death for Mercy or some such thing, has a cross, which looks more like a + sign on the back of his hand...looks exactly like the symbol of Saturn on the hand of the Devil! Could this be the same thing?

Interesting observation, Shalott. You have pointed out that both the Devil, and the Priest on the Death card have a cross on their hand.
Does this link Death's Priest with the Devil? Is the Devil a Priest of Death?
moderator note: since this question did not get answered in RWS study group, I'm moving it to Using, where it can be answered more broadly.

According to Rachel Pollack on "78 Degrees", the glyph for Saturn on the Devil's hand relates to evil or misfortune, but its most properly viewed as limitations, weakness or restrictions.
There is no reference to the glyph on the Priest's hand. However, he's the only figure in the scene who dares to stare at Death because his stiff Robes and hat protect and support him.
Peace,
Aun
