A couple times when I was shuffling my deck, I wanted to spread it out so I could pick a card.
Before I even started to spread them out, I get this sensation that I should pick the top card?
It felt really weird.

Those are definitely the feelings to listen to! Yes, follow your gut intuition even when your logical mind is protesting!
In cards and in everything else . . .

Yes, I get this ALL the time, and it is always a card that makes a HUGE amount of sense, either immediately, or later! :)
Definitely pay attention.

After the shuffle-- and I get a 'time to stop' feeling-- I spread the cards across my table. Sometimes there's a real physical electricy feel over a card, sometimes just a dip onto one.
Always a better picture when these happen.

I tend to pick cards by spreading them out and running my paw over them. When I get to a card that feels particularly 'hot', I pick it out. You actually get a warm tingling feeling (or occasionally a cold tingling feeling) in your hand/paw/flipper/fin/appendage :)

That was what I was doing... but before I could even spread them out, there was this: "Pick the top Card" feeling.

Yes Kahlie....I know what you mean....GREAT when that happens, isn't it???
Similarly, I ask my intuition to guide me to the right card when I am cutting and ready to draw the cards. I should mention that this technique is a bit less deliberate than your method of fanning out the cards and choosing several cards from throughout the deck--and I do enjoy using this method on occasion.
But most of the time I just shuffle, cut and draw....so that the point of the cut becomes critical in that all of the cards are chosen from that one spot in the deck.....

This happens almost all the time when I'm reading. I usually fan the cards out and take either the ones I get a tingling feeling from or the ones that catch my eye. Either way, it just works great and I think this is a very good sign that you are learning to recognize and trust your intuition. Way to go! :)

Yes, I experience this frequently while either doing a reading for someone or just handling the cards. I would venture to guess that one of the reasons we are all part of this forum and enjoy working with Tarot is because we have a natural affinity to tune into their meanings. I've learned to trust my own intuition even though the LWB may state something entirely different.
A couple of nights ago, a friend brought over her newly purchased Tarot of the Cloisters, a round deck. I hadn't expected to respond to it as positively as I did; however, the gorgeous stained glass artwork was quite breathtaking, and the colors are all vibrant chakra colors that just jump out at you. I got a good "buzz" just handling these cards and I have no doubt that my chakra centers were undergoing balancing.
The bottom line is, go with your instincts. They are probably correct!

I usually shuffle, cut, spread the cards out and the choose the cards.
Now I'm going with shuffle, cut the cards twice so there are 3 piles, put the 2nd pile on the top of the 3rd pile and the 1st pile is on the bottom, and then begin reading from the top card (this saves a lot of time if you have clients that take a long time to pick cards).
Mabee now I have more confidence in my readings that is why I can begin to read at the top card. I find choosing cards are more personable but this is the way it is going for now.
I think Tarot is forever changing as you learn.

I always hand select my cards and if I'm doing a spread with card position meanings, I think about the meaning, before I hand-select the card for that position.
I don't read professionally so it quickness of selecting cards is not an issue.
Can we actually intuit, or manifest the selection of a particular card. I say yes, because I've done it. Not with the Tarot, but with Titania's Fortune Cards (36 in the deck). I turned all of the cards face down, in a sitting with my sister, mother and aunty. Then I had first selection of cards. I said, I'm going to pick the Tower. My mother and aunty laughed and my sister said, just watch her, she did it yesterday. The day before I'd asked for the Sun.
I waived my hands over the entire table and my finger tingled over one of the cards. I turned it over and it was indeed the Tower. Now of course, if I was to test this a numerous amount of times, I am sure that I wouldn't get 100% accuracy. But it was interesting that I did get my card, two days in a row.
Cheers

I use the cut, shuffle, cut, shuffle, shuffle, get a blister, shuffle some more ... you get the idea. I cut and shuffle as often as seems advisable, then stop and read.
I often draw extra cards to put a finer point on a card in a spread. If it's the last card, then I simply choose the next card in the deck, but if it's another I will position my hand over the card that requires more information, try to absord any vibration from it, then seek a card with a similar vibration from the fanned remainder of the deck. Always makes sense in the end.
