Last night I did a reading for a friend with the Radiant RW and the Emperor came up. It's obvious that he's holding a scepter of the Egyptian ankh in his right hand, but what in the heck is that "orb thing" he's holding in his left hand? It almost looks like a bottle with a stopper in it (???) I didn't find an interpretation of it in "78 Degrees of Wisdom".
Anyone know what this item is and what it means? Thanks!!

According to A Complete Guide to the Tarot by Eden Gray, it is a globe of dominion. It is held in his passive, or female, hand, and symbolizes the need for love to balance spirit and matter.
If I remember correctly, British Kings and Queens are corronated holding something similar, but not the same. In there case, it is a cross mounted on the ball, which is divided into quarters with gold strips. This item symbolizes the rule of God over the world. So, not quite the same, but similar depending on one's view of God.
I hope that was helpful. :)
