Hi,
I just read the thread on stating a question versus keeping quiet and noticed how many people prefer not knowing the question before the reading. To those who prefer to read this way I'm wondering how do you go about choosing a spread for the read?
Thanks, EAB.

I guess it depends on where you are reading - in person vs. over the internet.
When I started my live readings a couple of weeks ago, I felt the same way. I went to a reader in another city just to see style and I loved her approach, which I modified for myself - if a seeker had no specific question, I would just draw three cards and see what they told me. Once you start talking, you draw them into your story, maybe by a key word or a well-timed question. Before long you find something that is on their mind and then build upon that.
Online is a little trickier. Best bet is to find a general spread (I believe there are a ton on Tarotspreads.com, plus a few books on the market). Make sure the first couple of cards in the spread are designed to point you in a certain direction - once you have that direction, just follow your guts and follow the same path through the rest of the cards. It is possible to sway off course, but you will typically hit on something.

I do a lot of my readings without questions. The answer shows up in the spread. If the answer does not come I'll read extra cards till I get some repeated interpretations.
I choose the spread that comes to me or I just start with a number of cards and read them like a story.
Try it you may like it!
Take Care,

Lately I have been reading without question but without a specific spread other than knowing upfront how many cards I am going to pull (usually three cards)
I find with a specific question and or spread that the readings turn out most specific but they both offer different + and -.

Sometimes I just let the cards tell me what I or someone else needs to know. I usually do not want to know the question. I have done both ways. Sometimes a cluttered mind will influence the spread.--Tao
