i did something reversed knight of swords the other day. i went to the lounge at work, had a couple of drinks. i dont read my cards in public, as it encourages people to ask me to read for them. some of my co workers who know i read started asking me if i would read for them. word got around the bar, and i started having a whole bunch of people asking me to read. a whole bunch of drunk people.
i have never seen so many reversed cards in so many spreads before! it seems that the courts become reversed under the influence. all the knights become knight of swords reversed. the queen of pentacles can hold her liqour somewhat she doesent get reversed. unless shes reversed to begin with. all the other queens become queen of cups reversed. both a natural queen of cups reversed, and a natural knight of swords reversed stay the same!
i got some of the sauce in me myself, and i started getting cocky.
i asked people if they were willing to have fun with it. so i started insulting people with the cards. you ever describe the classic meaning of the queen of pentacles reversed to a querent who thinks you were describing them? glad i made it clear it was a joke! it was a hit though. referring to a queen of swords reversed as a cold hearted bitch. the knight of swords reversed as an impudent moron.
people enjoyed getting insulted. i had no problem talking about the embarassing spreads too, cause every body thought it was a joke any ways. although some people actually recognized what i was talking about, but feigned happiness, a la two of pentacles reversed. all in all, when people started taking it less seriously, but still willingly came to me, the readings flowed like fine wine. no hang-ups, catch twenty's, or sceptics. i am very surprised about that, too. i felt certain that at least one arrogant drunk would do what he could to disprove me, but no one did. i think that they were afraid of getting cut down.

lol sounds like an experience...although I would be afraid my deck would be ruined by drunken shuffling and spilled liquor! :D

Glad you enjoyed the experience cartarum- this is how I learned to read for other people. My local pub, every Wednesday night, from the age of about 16 (ssssh... don't tell anybody!) where I would read for mildly drunk people. And then when I moved to Cardiff, every Thursday at my local for mildly drunk Pagans.
There is definitely a more relaxed atmosphere when reading in a pub. And you in turn can relax- alcohol or no. I used to have a few drinks myself, but these days I don't drink and still relax the same way and deliver the readings in a more confident, fun manner. I found that when I had a few drinks, I'd become a veeeery expressive reader: I'd do sound effects, hand movements, link the cards to films or popular culture, facial expressions, instead of just a cold, boring deliverance of the card meanings. Nowadays I do that anyway without alcohol. :D
Ivy Rhiannon: my deck has suffered a few spillages (I believe it can boast Carling, Cider, white wine, and lemonade so far...) but I talcom powder it if it gets sticky. Problem solved. And you won't believe how much people suddenly sober up just for the shuffling part- they get very solemn and careful.
Anyway, I think this thread would be better off in Talking Tarot or Using Tarot Cards, so I shall be moving it there in about 24hours.
Blessings,
Kiama
