Just flicking through the new deck and a face that continually attracted my attention is the one on the woman in the 'La Forza' card. Her eyes are wide open and she looks like she is either in a trance or is a little bit crazed. Any ideas about this one? It's a little disconcerting; she could be hypnotising the lion, I suppose.

No help from the multi-fold instructions here,
but did you notice her feet too?

I think that this just emphasises a sense of struggle in a way that deck's like the Waite don't. I can't comment on the Marseilles woodcuts because few of the faces have much recogniseable expression - more to do with the limitations of woodcut printing than artist's intention I suspect.
This card may not emphasise the total superiority of the Woman to the Lion in the way modern decks do but in a way I prefer this - the ferocity of her expression shows that she is more than a match for the lion she's grappling with.
Chris. xx
PS. Thanks Fulgour, I hadn't noticed the feet before. The fact that the Lion is underfoot really does emphasise the sense of victory - nevertheless this is not a victory without struggle.

Cheers Chris. I also like the even struggle in this illustration; it is good to see that the both of the characters are putting up a fight and overcoming of the situation is not a breeze in any way. I think it adds a realistic feel to the interpretation.
