Of course, in the Strength card, we see someone opening a lion's mouth. Wow!! What courage and bravery.

But we do not see what could happen in the next scene. It was cut during the montage. But nothing can be kept secret forever. I attach herewith a picture for you all.

ROFL

I'm sure that's what the stone-carvers had in mind. Talk about the Language of the Birds!

Ha! Diana, that's fabulous. :D

I always felt that strength lies with both the woman and the lion. She has strength because she controls without force and he has strength because he allows her to control. The relationship between the Lion and the woman can be reciprocated. The lion can rebel at any time and here he is doing just that! I'm not sure that it changes the meaning of the card.

:)

A certain Serge Bonnery, on his web-site (in French) on the symbolism of the Lion in the Middle Ages, http://www.chantiers.org/lion.htm, says at the end of his essay, and I translate:

"In the end, the lion seems to show us the path where spirit succeeds in liberating itself from matter, to attain its true nature. As with any symbol, its ambivalence is the sign that there is no predestined road on the initiatory path. By contemplating the lion on sculptures in cathedrals, churches or Romanesque chapels, man learns that he must tame the brute force, for badly utilised forces could be dangerous for the person who has not sought to master them."

Musing on the idea of Taming:
Taming implies a victory of one over the other, usually the submission of nature to human control. I believe human mastery of "brute force" happens by working toward balance rather than taming. What I've always like about Strength is the notion of mutual Respect as key.

Go Diana! Morning after indeed!

He who lives with the lion, could die by the lion.

the image of the robin wood strenght card comes to mind where she tickles the tiger .

and this image posted has always been my thought,,
when a lion isn't tamed enough ,, then no amount of ticklin will help.
you can either fight the tiger,
or try to tame it..
or simply avoid it.

an example is a recent dream i had regarding bigfoot.
in it he was running around scaring kids so i was going to jump in there and fight him,
the old man said you dont' want to do that , big foot will ripp you apart.
and he said i thought i could tame himm, the big foot tamed me and i am a prisioner here.

so aye that image would be strenght reversed. what happens when the lion isnt' ready to be tamed or conquered. and we stupidly try.

I once had a dream in which I was running from all sorts of wild animals, till I finally found safety on top of a high pile of rocks, from where I could see all landscape around me. Then coming from nowhere, this huge lion / tiger / leopard came and stood by my side… I got so scared I immediately woke up in my bedroom, but fall asleep again instantaneously, and found myself back there, face to face with this big animal I could almost smell. When I thought he was about to eat me, he simply lay down by my side, and we both stayed there for a while, not moving a muscle. I was scared to death, thought my fears were slowly calming down, and the tiger was absolutely relaxed. Then he started to talk to me, and the rest of the dream (in which I was aware that I was dreaming) is not relevant to this issue – but one thing I learned from it: the lion is just another aspect of the woman.
