Hi all, I don't know what your experiences are with this. I don't do Cartomancy myself but I've met someone who does both. and She said that she feels like cartomancy has improved her intuition a lot more than tarot. Does anyone have experiences with both, what are your opinions?

It is said that Tarot decks with unillustrated pips rely much more on intuition (besides numerology) than those decks with illustrated pips.
So, what kind of Tarot decks is your friend comparing cartomancy with?

She is probably comparing it with the Rider Waite Deck.
Should I give Cartomancy a try?

If you think of every act of divination as occurring
only once in all of time ~ a totally unique event,
there can be much to learn from becoming aware
of how different, and how alike, each one can be.

I used to do cartomancy, and had good success with it, but felt it lacked depth and opportunity for inspiration. Once I bought my first tarot deck, a RWS, there was no turning back.

I highly recommend spending time reading with playing cards, and Soul Cards.
Soul Cards do not come with a LWB – there are no ‘meanings’. So you have to learn to be open, and speak the message. It helps you get over that “What if I’m wrong?” crap that ego loves to insert into our readings. If you’re truly open, there will be no ‘wrong’.
Playing cards are similar in approach. No pictures. You can begin with a numerology/suit style; there are no pictures to ‘help you’. But if you learn to be open…
I used to read playing cards a lot when tending bar (then I’d go next door and read tarot…), I used the “Hey, this is something I’m playing with – let’s try it out…” on the customers. Since it was not Tarot, and I stated that it was ‘something I’m playing with let’s try it out…” there were no ‘expectations’. I was free to ‘screw up’. With that setting – I was free to be open and ‘go for it’.
It was a wonderful way to learn to just be – and just speak – and trust in myself and the reading…to put ego at bay…

My Grandmother once volunteered to play the part of a Gipsy fortune teller at a charity garden party. she used playing cards, having no former experience she just said what she felt. to her surprise everyone was amaized at her insights. This frightened her and she never did it again but from that day onwards she had lots of visions that often came to pass.
I have never tried cartomancy mainly because I work with images and the Tarot provides all I need. when I work with the Tarot I see whole pictures/stories as if each card is a character in a painting about the clients life. I cant do this with none illustrated cards and would have the same difficulty with playing cards. I suppose over the years I have learned to access intuition and insight through imagery only. it all boils down personal choices

One of my friends is a cartomancer for 20 years, she's only 38 now, but she is very accurate, she was taught by her grandmother. As soon as she lays down the cards she can instantly know what the situation is. It just developed over years of using them. Her grandmother taught her 3 simple spreads, cutting the deck 6 times, then every seventh card and the last 3 leftover. Then splitting the deck in half and pairing them together. She has never changed, but it works for her.
She is actually a member here on AT but hasn't been online for a few months. She gets better insight with playing cards than tarot.
