The Eight of Wands is a card that keeps popping up in readings for both myself and my friends. However I find it difficult to interpret. I think it means fast, direct action; but I would like to elaborate on that. What´s your view on it?

Much depends on the questions you're asking, or the position where this card shows up, but I've seen it interpreted as:
travel (particularly by air)
internet communication
intense action (fevered, rushed, desperate)

Firelite, which deck do you use? I find 8 of wands is an all or nothing card. once you start, you may not be able to stop. A point of no return, maybe. But as always, it depends on the reading at the time.

Or maybe the card is trying to tell you something?
Give it some time, spend a while just thinking about the card and what it could be trying to tell you.
Maybe you're moving things ahead too fast, or not fast enough?
Is there something that's been on your mind a lot that could be shining through?
Just got to thinking about this after reading a thread on 'stalking cards'...

I've always interpreted it as something that is rapidly coming whether an event, news etc...negative or positive outcome would be determined by the surrounding cards.
Hope this helps.

I agree...8 of Wands can be difficult...more so if one looks at it by itself.
As others have said, depends upon topic, location of card in spread. After all, in the RWS tradition, we can't see WHO threw all those wands at once and with what intent. Sometimes I like to look at the card to the left of it.
Now, in the Tarot de Marseilles....the energy of the bastons is so balanced as four cross over four...and then there is the flower above and the flower below. As it is above so it is below.
Such harmony in this 8. When I see the Tarot de Marseille 8 of Bastons, I think of movement and also of two squares, lots of stability here and with the right intention there will be growth through focused intention. Also, eight reminds me of L'Hermite, of seeking some solitude to reflect on how to channel all of this energy of two earthly squares (four elements X 2) into manifesting something on the earthly plane. It is a card of harmony.
Also, the six-petaled flowers, one above and one below, give me a six...transitions in the making. Added together we have a twelve...not the Hermit this time but the Hanged Man. So we have a powerful energetic 8 asking for some "control" applied to an issue or area of life...money/career, love relationship....

| Lately for me it means "Go for it" which seems to reflect what tmgirl2 said in her post lots of stability here and with the right intention there will be growth through focused intention Things are moving in the right direction, it's no time for procrastination, Nike's "Just Do it" would be a real good 8 Wands symbol. But that was for that particular reading, it sort of depends what you are asking about and the cards around it too. Something that is illusive and passes quickly, an opportunity that is here and gone just as quickly. Something to persue with focused intent for sure.

For my readings, it's usually meant communication, and lots of it. Or, "there's a lot of information flying around right now." Or, a sudden infusion of new energy, and that obstacles are suddenly swept away. I'm going to remember trying tmgrl's suggestion to look at the card to the left to see who threw those wands!

I can't remember which deck it is, but in one of them the wands are being thrown upward from bottom left to upper right!
Ah yes! It's the Gilded Tarot!

I still look to see who, if anyone, has thrown them. LOL

Apart from motion, communication, whirlwind I've also seen interpretations of the 8 of Wands to mean falling in love.

Depending on the surrounding cards as: life in the fast lane; on a fast track (to a destination); philosophizing or waxing poetically (with a hint of suiting action to words); a collaborative effort; getting all one's ducks in a row.

VIII Wands
Arc of Trajectory
We see the Wands as they are coming down, long past
when they were under the control of the energies that
first launched them: all is now in the hands of Nature.

Unless they were launched from ....something (edited /or someone) "on a higher plane?"
