Why not?
The reading that frightened me out of reading for years was done (by me) with the IIJ deck, majors only (they were the only ones with pictures on them!) and the LWB in hand. Believe me, they will tell as much truth as any other.
BUT more importantly, why do you ask?

or just picking one for a question? Contemplating the cards just
one at a time is a great way to develop Tarot meditation skills.

Or do you mean taking the majors only and dealing one at random?
Personally I would not do this, or work with most majors-only decks. I believe not everything in life is a major arcana event. And the "minors" especially after Pamela Smith gave them images are very relevant and useful...
Now if you meant card meditation, I agree that is a wonderful meditation and/or study technique.

Oh yes!
terri
Certainly for myself.
Sometimes, when someone wants to dip their toes into a Tarot reading, I pull one card....not necessarily a major...and then I explain a bit about majors and pips...and we're off.
