do you think that when you bond with a new deck, is it the pictures that you are bonding with or the cards themselves? If you had two of the same deck in front of you, do you think you would be more attracted to one over the other, even though they are both new and unused? I mean, if they were both sitting in a shop in front of you, would the deck itself influence which you picked up to buy?
lol i think there were three questions in there. not sure if that all made sense. hope you understood it. :)

The images play a big part with me bonding with a deck. I can't bond with a deck just because it is new & unsued. It is all about pictures. Even if I don't like the book or the authors "theology." All I need is the pictures to speak to me, to invoke something. I am bonded with a deck because of the pictures, &
the time I've spent with it.

The rest is just paint and cardboard. As for two of the same deck....if I've used a deck often, I might feel more comfortable with it, just as I would with a particular piano, or a baseball player would with their own glove, I guess.
It's important to remember that the cards are made of cardboard, it is the images that make the deck.

I think it is a little of both - the images have to appeal but once that has happened then use and shuffling of the cards break them in. I find I bond with a deck easier that has cards just the right size, if I have to learn a new way to shuffle then it can spoil the ease of use of a deck. My main deck is the English Morgan Greer and this deck fits the size of my hand just right - I also have the Morgan Greer in Spanish and at first glance the decks look identical but they're not. The Spanish has slightly muddier colours and although I love this edition, it wouldn't take the place of the English version.
The Radiant Rider Waite is another deck that I have started to appreciate more, mainly because i love the feel of these heavily laminated cards when I shuffle. :D
