Hi Rachel!
Welcome to AT! As for the decks, well, it is best to have your own deck. This will allow you to bond with it. As for allowing others to touch your deck, there is much debate on this, but the truth is, whatever feels right. For me, I allow others to touch, but I cleanse them afterwards.
Also, yes, if it feels right, you can read for yourself, but again, some people don't feel comfortable with this.

Hi Rachel
Welcome to ATF!
Yes you can read for yourself, and for anyone else! Having a "special deck" is common. I do not have one that only just for me. Altho, when I buy a new deck, I very jealously guard it from other people..just because I am not ready to share it yet ;)
Usually after a month or so I am ready to play nicely with other..hehe.
What ever feels right for you is the right thing to do with your cards.

Hi. My name is Rachel, too! And I'm kind of new here. But I have already found out it's a great place with lots of nice people. I think I'll wander over to the Reading Cards area and ask about letting the people you read for shuffle the deck. I'm like a previous poster. I don't want anyone to handle my decks just because I'm a baby who doesn't want anyone else to play with my toys!!! Welcome and have fun!

Hi Rachel, welcome to Aeclectic. I go for long periods when the only person I read for is myself - if you feel ready to then go for it.
Have fun exploring the forums :)
Love
Sulis xx

Well,
I have heard some people say that you should not let others touch the deck you use for your personal readings, and others say that it is fine. I think the reasoning for the first is so that your deck will pick up only your vibes and be more attuned to you when it is time to do your readings.
In the end, here is what it boils down to:
Tarot is a spiritual tool. And with any spiritual tool you have to follow your instincts and listen to your inner self and do what feels right to you. You need to do that when reading cards, but it also applies to how you treat them.
It's not about what's right for someone else, this is only about what's right for you. YOU need to feel "right" and comfortable about how you treat them. If it feels wrong or funny, stop and don't do it. There's my opinion.:-) Don't overthink things, just feel. Feel what feels right and what doesn't. As long as you treat your cards with respect, I am sure anything that feels right to you is.
For me, for what its worth. I never let anyone touch my decks I read for myself with. They are so full of deep meaning for me, I feel as though they are really "sacred" to me. And I do store them in some beautuful silk lined pouches, with lavendar petals in them. Let me know if you want the web site where I get those. :-)
While I don't let others touch my decks I read for myself with, I do have a double of one of my decks that I carry around to show people. Or if they want to practice.
From what I have seen, I may well be the only one here who thinks this way LOL, but for me I only read for myself. I find Tarot a means of self-discovery and of self-improvement. Since I have heard that the answers come from your inner guide, or your unconscious, it just makes sense to me that no one else can see as deeply inside myself as I can. Other than that I am here to help anyone I can, and certainly I am always here to offer any advice I can. But if a friend wanted a reading, I would chose to teach to read the cards she has drawn rather than do it for her.
But there you go, we are all on our own spiritual quest and we need to go where our inner guide leads us. :-)
And that is the crux of it, to find what feels right to you, to find the path of your spiritual quest and to follow it.
By the way, I am in Montreal, Canada. Not far from Boston really. I have been there a number of times.:-)
Hope some of this helps,
Bar

Ps I am still so lost on this board! LOL I posted this as a new thread by accident. LOL
Yes the meanings of the cards change depending on where the card is in the spread, on what the question was and on many other factors.
You can send me a letter if you ever want to about any reading you are confused about and I will give you my opinion.
