I usually do a daily draw at night before going to bed - using this card for the following day.
I always assumed this card would show you the energy that would be with you for the day. However, I am finding that I am either sadly mistaken OR just not good at interpreting the cards.
Do I have the concept of daily draws wrong ?
Please help ?!?!

Michelle: The daily draw can be at any time of the day desired.
Such as, in the morning or earlier part of the day to see what guidance may be offered for that day.
In the evening to see what the card has to offer regarding the day spent.
In the evening for the next day.
Perhaps the evening card applies to the same day? I find that some of my daily cards seem to go through cycles. They can appear to speak of the same day; switch to the following day for a time or even go back & forth between days. Refer to a family member or a friend, which oft presages a message from that person or information about the person.
The card could be advice about an aspect in the life or a quality to emulate.

It might depend on what exactly you are asking as well. I pull a daily card and generally ask a general 'advice for the day' type of draw, and often I have absolutely no idea what the card is trying to tell me. There are other days however when the card is dead on in providing some important insight. The mystery of tarot ;). There are some excellent two-card draws that I'm sure you can find in the "spreads" section which may provide something you may find more comfortable interpreting.

Sometimes when ppl read for themselves, even with just one card biased is added and that errors the meaning. We just know to much about our own lives to step back and take whatever they are really telling us sometimes.

I've replaced my daily draw of one card with a 3 card mind, body, spirit spread instead. I do this draw in the morning before starting work and so far I've been having some good results with it. But you should be able to do this spread just before you go to bed and use the cards given for guidance for the next day.

I've found mine often tend to be completely literal. Watching over a sick cat & get the Empress card for mothering. Having to write out the bills & getting the 4 of Pentacles (want to just keep all my money & not give it away). The ace of Pentacles (it's above a pedistal) and needing to change a major lightbulb that just blew out by standing on the kitchent able to reach it. Etc.
The meanings seem to adjust themselves to a lot of things, not necessarily what focus of energy the day will be. Keep open minded and I'm sure you'll see it click suddenly on several different levels.

I started with one-card draws, but found them kind of limiting. There I'd be with a card -- could be either good or bad news -- and then I found I needed a second card to give the reading a bit of depth. Which was also pretty limiting.
Went to three-card 'issue-advice-outcome,' which has helped a lot. Like it very much. Especially as I sometimes use the 'shadow' card on the bottom of the deck for clarification.

When I was doing daily draws (in the evening), I always asked, "What should I have in mind tomorrow?" I found that sometimes it would be literal, something that would happen during the day; sometimes it would be advice for how to look at the events of the day; and sometimes it would just be a card I needed to give a closer look to/meditate on. I found that I needed that kind of open question to get a productive answer.

I'm thinking of trying this out: Shuffle and cut deck in usual manner. Take top card and put it aside. Take the bottom card and put it aside too. Fan the rest of the deck out and pick a card from anywhere. There's your 3 cards for the day. Top (light/illumination) card, bottom (shadow) card, and then the card you picked yourself from the fanned out deck. Maybe that could be the outcome card or something. :)

helps to familiarize yourself with a card or with the deck over a period of time. An article in the 2005 Tarot Reader by Elizabeth Genco 'Your Daily Inspiration' relays that this is a standard tool to use for early readers. I've picked cards over the last several days to try it out. Last night's card for today was right on the money. 4 of swords (Cosmic tarot) - Truce , being at rest, a negotiated peace, outward agreement. My day at work was relatively light allowing me to journal, check out this site a little more, and this evening do a chakra meditation. It's just kind of the way the day unfolded. I am unable to spend this kind of time usually; it fit for me today. My two sense... Hope it helps.
Peace

Formicida summed up what I believe about daily cards, so I'll just comment on why it works that way for me. Tarot is all about possibilities. It doesn't live by the clock like we do. A daily card that doesn't 'fit' today may prepare me for understanding or making different choices in the future. Or it may be a set of tinted glasses that I can use to view my day differently.

I've found reading about other people's daily draws ( in the 'pick a card, any card' thread, very enlightening. You see how others relate their cards to their lives, and it can give you some insight in how the cards might be trying to relate to you. :)

Thank you Lurea_aure ~
I will definitely read the posts on Daily draws . You are right - reading how others relate the cards to themselves and/or their day should really help me in learning how to do the same.
Love & Blessings,
Michelle

I usually do my daily draws in the evening and see what the card tells me about the passed day. My experience is that it doesn't show me the overall energy or theme but rather a specific incident that happended during the day.
