One thing I haven't worked out as none of my tarot books have this information is what suits represents the different directions and seasons. Also vocation.
Thank you!

Tarot for The Green Witch does! By Ann Moura Earth is Pentacles North also represents old age infancy, Air is Swords East represents childhood, Fire is Wands South represents youth, Water is Cups West represents maturity she also has times worked out for these N-12.00pm, E-6.00am, S-12.oo noon, W-6.00pm. Nothing on vocation though but as Pentacles is Earth it could mean working on the land or with your hands, Wands communications, Swords working on an airplane! Cups on the sea! I always find it hard to work that out! Buy the book it's great I hope this helps you Blessings Forgot the seasons Pentacles winter, Swords spring, Wands summer & Cups fall but some people swap swords and wands it's up to you!

As you are both in Australia, it may be worth mentioning that many people tend to locate the element of Earth to the North in the northern hemisphere, and here therefore place the element to our nearest pole - the South.
Conversely, Fire is placed towards the heat and the equator, which for us is of course north.
As to the suit, this will therefore partly depend on how each is correlated - and various authors and deck designers have, for example, correlated Swords with each of the elements.
With regards vocation - how about carefully noting the kinds of people who principally have utilised those implements, and expand it in our own individual ways from there?

Thanks jmd forgot to mention that! but I actually use the Northern hemisphere way in my readings as I find that works for me, but I celebrate the equinoxs ect the Southern hemisphere way! so it just goes to show how you really have to make up your own mind as to what works for you, no matter what advice you get. Blessings

Varies according to pack designers ideas, where not referenced or on older packs, on nagivational maps dating from 14th century Italy the icon for east is a staff, north sword, south disc [golden nugget] and west cups.

This information will be listed in the "Index" found in the back of your books!

Some people have written down standardized systems, and some deck creators have encoded the information in their decks. For example, the Buckland Romani deck does show seasonal indicators in many of the cards. Being in North America, the "traditional" attributions I have heard most often are:
Pentacles = Winter = Earth
Cups = Autumn = Water
Swords = Spring = Air
Fire = Summer = Fire
However, I think it should be up to the reader as long as your attributions make sense to you. Personally, Water/Cups is East and Spring to me. I'm on the east coast so having water in the west doesn't make much sense to me. Also, Air/Swords is West and Autumn to me. Air makes me think of the stiff breezes in the fall.
It will vary a lot depending on where you are and how much you want to stick to a certain tradition.
