Have you ever noticed the similarities between those 2 cards in RWS type decks? characters have their arms crossed, legs wide open and giving the back to the water element. How significant those similarities can be? considering their traditional divinatory meanings are so different?
For your reference I got them in a reading, both sent a strong message of beign closed to move to somehting else more significant and benefical for the future because of overindulgence (9 of Cups in the CC "Basis") and denial of the current situation (2 of Swords in CC "Self/Querent") the reading was very accurate and those 2 cards working together were very interesting to me.
I'd love to hear your comments about this two cards.

Wow!
I’m amazed cause I never before have noticed the similarities between those two characters... Their meanings are almost opposite to me most of the time. But looking closer I can see a similarity in them both being like guardians.
Two of swords is like a parking barrier or the guard on the door: “you will not pass without paying something in exchange”. Nine of cups is like the owner of the “shop of temptations” telling you: "take everything you want (if you dare…)"
Nice reading of the cards on your CC.

I liked a lot your take on the cards as guardians... "the shop of temptations" sounds like an interesting place and sounds complimentary to the 7 of Cups "the show of tempations?".

Yes. Nine and seven of cups are quite complementary cards, both them related to our wishes, fantasies, options and desires, and also to the need to know what we really need.
