I'm not quite sure if i'm going through a newbie phase or something, but sometimes, cards come out, and i cant quite read it, and i wonder if i'm doing something wrong....
then there are those times where i just have these cards in front of me, and i have no clue what they mean until the situation actually happens, and then i realize what the cards were telling me
has anyone ever felt this way?

Hi NewWithCards,
Well I'm a complete beginner with tarot myself and I know exactly what you mean. I can be going along quite happily and then you get a card you just look at, and nothing, there is absolutely nothing there. I thought I was doing something wrong, but apparently it's quite normal, so you're not alone. I find these are normally court cards or pentacles (and even worse if its both!!).
I'm sure this will pass with time and practice.

Hi
Im a newbie too and have the same problem. When i dont have a clue (blank mind) that's when i consult books and online resources- sometimes this helps, other times it just confuses me more.
And it is usually those darn court cards that cause the greatest blanks for me- not sure if theyre the querent, another person, environmental factor etc.
Im hoping that with practice over time, this problem will no longer be a problem.
Persistence and patience is what is needed i think... and a handy journal to record meanings/interpretations.

Hi All(Newbies)
This just doesnt' happen to newbies but to all of us. That's why it is good to have a journal to take note. If it repeats itself then you know that your card is representing the same thing for you. There are only 78 cards so your subconscious is only showing you the closest image to your conscious mind. New with Cards your 2 cards you pulled that you told me about via pm was a good example. 7 wands(test)10 swords(well what you had told me) I remember pulling the 10 of swords for my daily card draw, and I thought "oh blast what is this about" well later that nite I went to see the movie "The last Samurai" and of course that is all about sword fighting and blood and guts. You see, the images can mean so many things, but it still makes sense, only after the event.
So not to worry you are not wrong, but the cards were still right!

:) Court cards can also be aspects of the querent, or modes of expression, or one perspective on the situation; I personally practically never see them as representing a person, because people are really complex. So I might be a wife; an artist; a Witch; a daughter; a tax payer; a student; a teacher;... a court card might remind me (or the querent) to consider the student part of oneself, or the teacher,... or to consider another perspective.
Keeping a journal can be a very helpful study method. As you develop a relationship with Tarot and your particular deck, you'll notice patterns, associations which seem right. Some might echo those reference books, some might actually contradict them; that doesn't make them wrong.
